News - Finland: Supermarkets are least expensive for organic items, but small shops can still compete on prices

News - Finland: Supermarkets are least expensive for organic items, but small shops can still compete on prices | Finland | Scoop.it

In the comparison, the difference between the least and the most expensive food baskets was more than EUR 20. considering we are talking of a basket of items that cost EUR 48.77 in the most expensive case and just EUR 25.93 in the cheapest example, this difference speaks for itself.

A consumer for whom the most important selection criterion is the inexpensive price will pick up his or her organic produce from a supermarket that belongs to a large chain.
The comparison showed that the cheapest food basket can be found at a grocery store that belongs to the S-Group (Suomen Osuuskauppojen Keskuskunta SOK).

Value of debt recovery at record high

Value of debt recovery at record high | Finland | Scoop.it

The recession in the economy has boosted the number of homes and other real estate repossessed to pay loan defaults. Very few, however, are being sold at public auction. In most cases other sales channels are used, as auction prices are usually well below market value.
The value of debt recovery this year has reached new highs and for the first time hit the one billion euro mark. Most of the bad debt has been taken on as consumer credit.
Around 1,300 house, flats and other properties, such as holiday home, were forced into sale last year. This year's figure is expected to be slightly higher.

Q1 rents up 3.1 per cent year-on-year in Finland, Helsinki real estate market a total mess | ECONOMY News Index | Finland | Scoop.it
Statistics Finland yesterday released an update of rent pricing in Finland. Q1 rents are up by 3.1 per cent year-on-year in Finland. Helsinki rents of unsubsidized units are up by 7.3 per cent and rest of Finland 1.6 per cent.

This post was motivated by the stream of posts that ensued after Helsingin Sanomat posted this piece of news about the rise in prices of rents in Helsinki. The thread over there is already filled with posts demanding rent controls to bring prices down to appropriate levels so that those who cannot afford them could afford them. This is really one of my favorite topics as these responses that you get every time capture something so essential about people’s inability to understand free market economy, and here I refer to real free market economy, not government/criminal run command economy that allows for private ownership.
