The Mint of Finland have launched (3rd February) a new collector coin which highlights distinctive Finnish design and celebrates Helsinki being designated World Design Capital for 2012. The coin was launched at the prestigious World Money Fair in Berlin. The Finnish capital was chosen as the World Design Capital by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design in recognition of “Finnish practical comfort which brings together elements of luxury with a touch of Nordic style.” The coin highlights this distinction as an innovative and modern country of design expertis

The newspaper Savon Sanomat reports an attempt to pass notes printed in Russia as play money in shops in Kuopio. The euro-denomination notes carry a text in Russian saying that they are not legal tender.
