A NOBLE Park community group is taking great strides with a Finnish-inspired exercise.
The Arabic Women Seniors Group has received funding from Arthritis Victoria to purchase Nordic walking sticks, which are used by the participants, most with arthritis, to enhance their movement while walking.
Nordic walking was developed in Finland by cross-country skiers who maintained their physical fitness over summer by walking with their ski poles.
General manager of training, information and programs at Arthritis Victoria Jane Glatz likened the exercise to being on a cross-trainer.
She said research indicated people who used Nordic poles had a greater cardiovascular workout.
Finnish export figures showed zero growth during the second quarter of this year. Exports by the electronics sector have been declining for a longer period of time and in June, exports of pulp for use in paper production also fell.
