Brilliant thinking + Beautiful, functional design + Ecological = Globe Hope.

Globe Hope is the brainchild of Finnish textile designer, Seija Lukkala who simply got frustrated with the mad consumption pace going on within the textile industry and decided to put her expertise to action in creating a more ecological and sustainable future. Globe Hope’s clothing and accessories save and reuse nature’s resources and respect ethical production. We love that they’re aesthetic, functional and idea-rich. And the use of ‘recycled materials’ is an absolute bonus. We’re sold!

Gulf of Finland recovering slowly

Gulf of Finland recovering slowly | Finland | Scoop.it
Nearly all St. Petersburg sewage is now treated

The calm Gulf of Finland bathes in the spring sun in Sandöfjärden off Raseborg in the southwest of Finland.
The water looks clear at the surface, but the bottom area is almost dead: the only living creatures there are bacteria.
Ari Honkonen and Asko Mustonen of Vesi-Eko as well as farmer Aarre Arrajoki are attaching cables to an oxygenator, which is to pump oxygen-rich surface water to the oxygen-free lower levels. The aim of the project is to see if it is feasible to revive the depths by artificially introducing oxygen to the sea bottom.

Where the wild things are

Where the wild things are | Finland | Scoop.it
The most northerly wilderness area is Finland's Oulanka National Park (277sqkm and 36 per cent is wilderness) and Russia's Paanajarvi National Park (1040sqkm with 96 per cent wilderness). They are on either side of the Finnish/Russian border in southern Lapland close to the Arctic Circle.

This meandering river ecosystem is untouched boreal forest, homeland for brown bears, lynx, otter, beaver, wolf, golden eagle and the very rare wild reindeer.
