Nokia just gave us a look at their new N9 running MeeGo. It looks great, except that it's dead on arrival. But just in case you were unsure about Nokia's future plans, CEO Stephen Elop basically confirmed it's all over.

In an interview with Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the Nokia headman and former Microsoft executive stated that, even if the N9 turns out to be a hit, Nokia's energies will be spent on Windows Phone technology. Is Nokia’s shift to Windows Phone a good thing for Finland? | Nokia Windows Phone | Finland | Scoop.it
I’m making the rounds in Finland to survey its mobile tech scene (disclosure: FinnFacts paid for my trip) and it was somewhat surprising to hear that the country’s software industry may see Nokia’s shift to Windows Phone as a big opportunity. I say it’s surprising because there has been a lot of (deserved) doom and gloom because the move is leading to the layoff of 7,000 people...

Cloud Computing With Techila and Windows Azure Opens up new Possibilities for Cancer Research

TAMPERE, Finland, June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

The greatest challenge in cancer research is to identify genes that can predict the progress of the disease. Nokia has gone from Designed in Finland to Designed in California in less than two years » Unwired View

Nokia has gone from Designed in Finland to Designed in California in less than two years » Unwired View | Finland | Scoop.it
Nokia goes from designed in Finland to designed in California in two years http://bit.ly/lBafRJ...

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop appeared on CNBC yesterday, and during the interview he squashed all rumors about a possible sale of his company’s mobile division to Microsoft. But aside from that, he had a few other interesting things to say.

One of those things is that Nokia’s first Windows Phones “are being designed and put together in California, with the US market very much in mind”.

Okay, so having the US market in mind is a pretty decent thing to do especially for Nokia which seems not to have had the US in mind for many many years. And considering that Windows Phone 7 is a US-born OS, again that makes perfect sense. Nokia will probably even start working with the US carriers, something it has always hated doing, and it will bring some WP7 devices to market there. Fine.

The first part of that sentence though is just plain funny. I mean remember the Nokia N900 and its “Designed in Finland” cheap jab at Apple? Oh my.

The Finnish developers indict Windows Phone 7 and RIM | Finland | Scoop.it
Today I had a group of developers over from Finland and we headed to the Ritz for some interviews and drinks. Finland, you know as the land of Nokia’s headquarters. These entrepreneurs should be Nokia fanboys through and through, but what I heard from them was stunning.

They were brutal on Nokia and Microsoft. Only one of the seven companies said they were developing apps for Windows Phone 7 and even that one said “we might as well, we already built apps for every other platform.”
