Ahtisaari Days will be held in in Helsinki on 19 April. The seminar of international peace mediation work will be attended by, for instance, the former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The purpose of the Ahtisaari Days is to make peace mediation work more widely known by emphasising the meaning of education, knowledge and communication in particular. The Days will consist of three separate parts, including a gathering of international experts, an event for the public, and happenings to be held in schools.

Prime Minister designate Jyrki Katainen says that government formation talks will continue Tuesday, even though the Portugal aid package will be presented to Parliament by the caretaker administration then.

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, who heads up the working group on foreign, EU and security policy, was a little more direct when asked how discussions on the formulation of policy about relations with NATO were going.

Alexander Stubb (cons), the Finnish foreign minister, wrote in a blog entry on Saturday he had been vexed by the way foreign media outlets had reported on Timo Soini, the leader of the True Finns party.

"One should not demonise," Stubb wrote.

"I have known Soini for eight years. There have been many an EU battle, and always in good spirits."

NATO has confirmed to Helsingin Sanomat that it is interested in the possibilities of Partnership for Peace countries like Finland to take part in the alliance’s actions in Libya in enforcing the arms export ban and the no-fly zone imposed on the country.
Earlier on Monday Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb (Nat. Coalition Party) said that Finland had not yet received any requests for such participation.
