Obama should follow Finnish lead on bailouts

Obama should follow Finnish lead on bailouts | Finland | Scoop.it
Despite our own huge debt problems, President Obama wants to pledge billions of dollars (if he can get the Chinese to loan us the money) to the International Monetary Fund to help the EU bail out Greece. Instead of listening only to his Euro-elite chums, Obama would benefit from a conversation with the no-nonsense folks in Finland’s True Finn party. The resignation of Portuguese Prime Minister Socrates is just one of a string of reasons EU leaders are unlikely to find common ground on how to move forward with bailout funds at a summit in Brussels. DW-WORLD.DE: http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,14940080,00.html

Jyrki Katainen, head of the right-leaning National Coalition party, has struggled to form a government due to disagreements with the eurosceptic True Finns party over aid to Portugal, and, more recently, with leftist parties over tax reforms...

Europe: Portugal, Finland Threaten Summit

Europe: Portugal, Finland Threaten Summit | Finland | Scoop.it
Portugal's government is in danger of collapse as the country's opposition parties oppose another austerity package, a move that could force the country to seek a bailout from the rest of Europe and the International Monetary Fund.
Finnish support is needed because its strong credit rating (it is one of only six AAA rated countries in the eurozone) will help the bailout and financing mechanism to work.
