Finland is expected to overtake Sweden soon as the largest gold producer in Europe, as soon as the Pampalo gold mine, which was opened in Ilomantsi in North Karelia on Wednesday, reaches the planned production volume of 1,000 kilos per year.
The owner of the Pampalo gold mine, the Swedish Endomines AB, invested EUR 20 million in the mine project.
