Helsinki is hot in Monocle survey - Embassy of Finland, London : News & Current Affairs | Finland | Scoop.it
Monocle has rated Helsinki the coolest city to live in..... even in this heat!

Monocle magazine’s message is clear: if you want to know what it takes to make a city both liveable and lively, Helsinki is first stop!
Temperatures reaching 30 Celsius, a clear blue sky and half the city stretched out on the grass of the Esplanade park to enjoy the sunshine – what better time for Helsinki to hear the news that it has claimed top spot in Monocle magazine’s 2011 The Liveable Cities Index 2011.

"Helsinki is on a roll,” says Brûlé. “Crime is low, unemployment rates sound, the education system world class, and the city's food culture is thriving. Entrepreneurship and innovation is present in a young, skilled and technically proficient business culture. And the city's hardware generally manages to perform like a dream."

So Helsinki has just come out top in Monocle magazine’s Quality of Life survey.
Monocle, which takes a determinedly internationalist and unfailingly style-conscious view of politics, business, culture and design, was founded by its editor Tyler Brûlé in 2007. As anyone who follows his weekly column in the Financial Times will know, Brûlé leads a peripatetic life that will have given him personal experience of most, if not all, of the 25 cities under Monocle’s lens in this survey.

According to Monocle magazine, Helsinki is the world's most livable city - Good News from Finland

According to Monocle magazine, Helsinki is the world's most livable city - Good News from Finland | Finland | Scoop.it
The British magazine Monocle named Helsinki as the world's most livable city, the runner-ups being Zurich and Copenhagen. Every year, the magazine names the world's 25 most livable cities. Last year, Helsinki was ranked 5th in the livable cities index.

Helsinki's success is based on several factors that improve the quality of life in Helsinki. According to Monocle, Helsinki has had the courage to re-evaluate its goals as an urban entity. The magazine finds that there is a good balance between old and new architecture in the city. Among the deciding factors were the amount of green areas within the city, the hours of sunshine per year, and and the quality and operation of city services.

Low crime rate, excellent education and well-developed food culture served also to improve Helsinki's standing.

Monocle is a British lifestyle magazine focusing on fashion, design and international issues. Every year, the magazine publishes the Monocle's Most Livable Cities list along with the Travel Top 50 list, which includes travel services such as airports, hotels, cafes and restaurants.

Of the Finnish services, Monocle has previously appointed Helsinki-Vantaa airport as the world's best airport for connections.
