After the Fukushima disaster and the 25th anniversary of Chernobyl, concerns over nuclear power are reaching a peak around the world. But in Finland the debate is different.

“I’ve never noticed any dramatic swings of opinion regarding nuclear power in Finland,” says Jukka Laaksonen, the general director of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (known by its Finnish abbreviation, STUK). “Neither has any shift in attitudes taken place since events in Japan.”
