Kiviniemi: “This was a farce”

Kiviniemi: “This was a farce” | Finland | Scoop.it
Centre Party chair Mari Kiviniemi has strongly criticised the government negotiations process and the True Finns Party following the government talks’ return to the six-party formula. The True Finns do not want to take responsibility or influence policies, Kiviniemi said.
When Kiviniemi’s Centre Party agreed to take part in the negotiations, it said that the True Finns also had to be onboard. However, now Kiviniemi expressed disappointment in the True Finns.
Kiviniemi said that it did not look like the True Finns wanted to take responsibility or to influence Finland’s policies, be they internal or EU-related.
“It doesn’t look like they’re interested in making a difference,” Kiviniemi said.

Greens and Centre Party do not want to help in formation of government

Parliamentary support for participation in the bailout package for Portugal is dwindling. Before last month’s election, a majority in Parliament were in favour of guaranteeing loans to help keep Portugal solvent.
On Wednesday the Green League (10 seats) withdrew its support from the package, saying that it would only back the bailout if the future government gives it unanimous support.
There is also increasing scepticism within the Centre Party (35 seats). Before the elections both parties were in favour of help for Portugal.

Government negotiators still keeping mum

Government negotiators still keeping mum | Finland | Scoop.it
With a Friday deadline looming, those negotiating to form the basis for a new cabinet declined to comment about the prospects on Thursday. However sources say that a projected coalition based on the National Coalition, the True Finns and the Centre is unlikely.
Conservative National Coalition chair Jyrki Katainen, whose party holds the most seats in the new Parliament, has been leading efforts to forge a new government for some seven weeks now. If he does not achieve a breakthrough by Friday, the legislature is expected to name a new leader for talks.

Kiviniemi: Finnish Jobs Had To Be Protected | Finland | Scoop.it
Centre Party Chair Mari Kiviniemi has continued to defend her party's stand on EU financial bailouts, even though she believes it was a contributing factor to election losses.
Friday, Centre leaders were mulling over the party's defeat at the polls. According to Kiviniemi the party had no alternative than to do what was seen as a defence of Finnish jobs and a measure to prevent a new recession.
The outgoing Prime Minister has now challenged the winners in the elections to present the Finnish people with their solution for economic stability.
