Next Bank Asia – Delivering to the Customer | Banking 4 Tomorrow

Next Bank Asia – Delivering to the Customer | Banking 4 Tomorrow | Financial | Scoop.it
Today in Singapore we’ve had a gathering of a collection of real innovators and disruptors in the financial services and customer experience space.

Playmoolah demonstrated a model for engaging children online to help promote positive behavior financially, and hook in incentives for saving and doing chores at home. Stewart Chen from Perfectsen challenged the audience saying that everyone was talking about Y-Gen behavior, but he was a ‘real Y-Gen’ so could talk with authority. He demonstrated his Y-Gen’ness by showing a day in the life of a Y-Gen via his photo album, including photos he took on his MRT journey into work (including an interesting shot of a fellow commuter with a wardrobe malfunction). Chen reminded the audience that engagement and WOW was not about ‘likes’ on Facebook – when he showed that DBS and OCBC had tens of thousands of likes, but Boo the dog had 4.2m likes.

Respect the crowd – don't shut them out | Banking 4 Tomorrow | Financial | Scoop.it
If you are going to be a brand living in the world of hyperconnectivity today, you can’t think like you used to think 10 years ago in respect to communications strategy.
Westpac had an opportunity to discuss their rationale on the rate hike in an open forum and accept that customers were not happy with the increase. Half the time when you get irate responses, people are simply looking for validation, for their complaint to be heard, to be recognized. If you can address their problem, then they’re generally delighted. That’s how you earn the trust of digital natives – you engage them and you validate their voice. What you don’t do, is cut them off at the knees if they don’t agree with your spin or brand positioning.

Bye Bye Checking (and Current) Account | Banking 4 Tomorrow | Financial | Scoop.it
One of the key problems banks face, particularly in the US, is that the core bank account is designed around an assumed behavior that, while normal in the 80s and 90s, now is largely an anachronism. The ‘checking’ account in the US, is essentially built around the assumption that writing a check is still a core behavior for most banking customers.

mobile disruption: Some recent research released by Aite Group around the ‘debanked’ generation (Feb, 2012).

Why Facebook dropped Credits, and why FB is more important than ever (for Banks) | Banking 4 Tomorrow | Financial | Scoop.it
This week alone both Alior bank in Poland, and ASB Bank in New Zealand have opted to utilize the Facebook platform to enhance and simplify P2P payments. Apps like Chase QuickPay, and Barclays PingIt already allow you to send to a friend via an email address or mobile phone number, so why not send to a Facebook friend that you can simply select from your friends list. PayPal was one of the first to integrate this into their platform, and we see only benefits in smart integration of Facebook into the customer experience.

The 350-Year-Old British Post Office Is Leading The Mobile Payments Charge

The 350-Year-Old British Post Office Is Leading The Mobile Payments Charge | Financial | Scoop.it

The British Post Office, a company that can trace its roots back to 1660, is leaping with both feet into the 21st century and the NFC payments game. The PO is rolling out NFC-compatible payment systems to each of its branches across the country starting this week, beginning with 200 stores near Olympic venues. That means 11,500 branches will soon be NFC-capable, supporting the many credit and debit cards issued by British banks that are already NFC-enabled, and making sending a parcel or buying stamps just that bit quicker because the payments for amounts beneath £20 don't need a PIN or signature. In one swoop this decision is turning the 350 year-old Post Office into the biggest adopter of contactless payments in Europe.

How to Transition to the new Branch Reality | Banking 4 Tomorrow | Financial | Scoop.it
There’s really only three things that drive a customer to a physical branch:
I need a physical distribution point to deposit cash (primarily for small retail businesses)
I need advice or a recommendation for a product or need I don’t fully understand, or
I have a humdinger of a problem that I couldn’t solve offline, so I’m coming into the branch to get relief.
