At this year s Mobile Banking and Commerce Summit in Miami, many attendees recognized that mobile banking has moved from the abstract to reality but worried about how to make money on their tech investments and how to keep transactions secure.

ING Direct Canada recently announced a social login feature that allows the bank's 1.8 million digital customers to access their account information through Facebook — a move American bankers have been reluctant to make because of proposed regulation. And it is also working on a biometric pilot — using facial and voice recognition technology.

Asia-Pacific will account for US$74 billion, growing at 38 percent in 2013, with developed markets including Singapore and South Korea as well as developing markets such as India driving growth in the region.

According to Gartner estimates, NFC will account for just 2 percent of total transaction value this year and 5 percent of the total transaction value in 2017. Mobile bill payment will grow 44 percent this year and see stead growth throughout the forecast period, driven by higher value per transaction as more consumers in developed markets perform bill payments via mobile banking services, along with consumers in emerging markets who are transacting at higher values than originally forecast.

one in six British consumers are already interested in using Google Glass to manage their finances, without even seeing or testing a working prototype. This rises to a quarter for 18 to 24 year olds, which means once the technology is available to buy, banks will need to ensure they have a clear idea of how to extend their digital banking experience to wearable technology.

After hours banking has become commonplace for numerous British consumers, according to new research commissioned to mark the fifth birthday of Faster Payments, the UK’s internet and phone banking payment scheme.

Data indicates that almost 39 percent of those who use the internet or phone banking make payments after 5 in the afternoon during the week, while 21 percent complete transaction during the weekend. Furthermore, results show that 13 percent of respondents have stated they often make payments after midnight.
