A New Pedagogy is Emerging...And Online Learning is a Key Contributing Factor | Filosofia SL | Scoop.it

In all the discussion about learning management systems, open educational resources (OERs), massive open online courses (MOOCs), and the benefits and challenges of online learning, perhaps the most important issues concern how technology is changing the way we teach, and - more importantly - the way students learn. For want of a better term, we call this “pedagogy.”

What is clear is that major changes in the way we teach post-secondary students are being triggered by online learning and the new technologies that increase flexibility in, and access to, post-secondary education.

As a first step in an exploration of what these pedagogical changes are and their implications for students, faculty, staff, and institutions, we begin here by:

A very interesting (albeit long and detailed) discussion about the changes driving education and information management in schools and beyond.

 

There are some very good insights that some may find disturbing. One in particular where the teacher is no longer the expert, but a facilitator for students to guide them in their learning and  information gathering/management. When everyone can look up almost anything on Google and get answers, sometimes more accurate than the instructor has provided, a change was inevitable.

Pourtant, la morale se vit et parfois s’enseigne, plus ou moins explicitement, dans les classes et les établissements. Une réflexion sur les valeurs peut être menée dans le cadre de l’enseignement de la plupart des disciplines. Notre façon même d’enseigner promeut certaines valeurs, de façon plus ou moins consciente. La vie quotidienne dans un établissement, qui n’est pas une communauté, mais une microsociété où on rencontre l’altérité, où on doit vivre avec autrui, est porteuse également d’éducation morale. Il y a donc des acquis, des pratiques sur lesquels nous pouvons nous appuyer au moment de penser le nouvel enseignement.

Disputes between the two camps of philosophy can turn ugly. But do they have something to gain from each other?

The distinction between analytic and continental philosophers seems odd, first of all, because it contrasts a geographical characterization (philosophy done on the European continent, particularly Germany and France) with a methodological one (philosophy done by analyzing concepts).  It’s like, as Bernard Williams pointed out, dividing cars into four-wheel-drive and made-in-Japan.

Las preguntas son dos, pero con una premisa común, ¿nadie va a decir nada sobre lo que está pasando?: a)      Con el esfuerzo y la inversión realizada. Grandes corporaciones empresariales y financieras están invirtiendo y apostando por estas opciones ¿evalúan lo que sucede? Y si lo hacen con qué criterios y donde están los criterios técnicos firmados por quién?.  b)      En el mundo universitario, entre los que tienen el “sagrado deber” de velar por la excelencia de la enseñanza universitaria ¿nadie va a decir nada?

Pero ¿qué ha pasado entre nosotros? Se da el fenómeno que llamamos hace unos días “MOOCs de bazar chino” o "MOOCs chinos". Se trata de MOOCs de bajo coste, que como casi todos carece de diseño instruccional (eso no es novedad), pero además impartidos por profesores noveles o meritorios, y con videos “busto-parlante” mirando de reojo a las diapositivas.
...
¿Los MOOCs proporcionan realmente un acceso significativo a la educación superior de calidad a estudiantes marginados, es decir a los más necesitados de mayores oportunidades educativas?

É um dado exato que 90% de toda a informação que temos hoje foi criada nos últimos dois anos.

Então, (i) aos que lidam com matéria abstrata, o melhor é selecionar; (ii) aos que lidam com fatos, o melhor será engolir tudo, digerir e fazer inferências: a já cansativa ideia de Big Data vai mesmo, ao que parece, mudar tudo. E com ela os avessos a tecnologia serão finalmente jogados para escanteio. Já é possível prever em parte o resultado de processos judiciais, local e hora de crimes, potencialidade de investimentos; o grau de fidelidade das previsões irá aumentar. A divisão entre ciências humanas e exatas já está a perder sentido e, como dizia alguém que trabalha há 30 anos com o assunto, os polímatas já são material necessário.
