Free Fire - Film Grouch

Free Fire - Film Grouch | Film reviews | Scoop.it
Swift shot: I didn't think they could make a 90 minute shoot-out film, but pretty much that is what you get with Free Fire. Things escalate quickly and an abandoned factory in the '70s becomes the perfect setting for a gun deal with the Irish Republican Army (IRA) gone magnificently awry. And, for some weird reason, John Denver music is prevalent.

In the end, we all win, as this group of jackasses end up doing the work of ridding the world of a few brainless buffoons with automatic weapons. I am sure this was a film about the dangers of guns or some shit, but as a Marine veteran, all I kept thinking was, what a bunch of fuck-ups. They'd be dead in less than two minutes if my friends had shown up, especially in the '70s. My major take away from Free Fire is that I should get in some range time, just in case there are some jokers like this out in my neighborhood someday.

Neil Stryker and The Tyrant of Time - Film Grouch

Neil Stryker and The Tyrant of Time - Film Grouch | Film reviews | Scoop.it
Swift shot: What the hell was that? I mean, really, what in the actual Seven Hells did I just watch there? A crazy sci-fi comedy action flick that has good old fashioned T n A, plenty of violence, decent special effects for its budget, there were puppets, there was singing, there was David Ogden Stiers and Walter Koenig, the original Chekov, for those that don't know. And, truth be told, I haven't been this challenged writing a review since Hit Team! All I can say for sure is Neil Stryker and The Tyrant of Time is original, and it has an uncanny Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog timbre to it, with a bit of Buckaroo Banzai absurdity peppered in.

If you are seeking something completely off-the-wall and unpredictable, Neil Stryker and The Tyrant of Time is a safe bet. I guarantee it is like nothing else you have ever seen before, and there are puppets.

Lone Survivor Film Review by Rick Swift
Rick Swift's insight:

This film serves as a reminder that we are still engaged in Afghanistan, and we are still losing people, great people, in a region seemingly ruled by chaos. Yet, within the chaos, there is compassion. I like to think that those pockets of civility are worth fighting for, and I hope this film also inspires others to stay in the fight. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/lone-survivor/#sthash.cSYuE6b4.dpuf

I dont like war films because for me this type of films are very heavy to see, The idea of a war in a film isnt bad, but usually war films elapse all the time in the war, and for me it isnt interesting
Jaime Messía Cabrera's comment, June 15, 2014 1:52 PM
I didn't watch this film but I have watched other similar, and I love them because I always wanted to feel the sense of the soldiers in the war, playing with their lifes, depending of a weapon to survive in hostile place
Enzo's comment, June 15, 2014 3:49 PM
I like so much war film's, because there are very action, and the sounds effects are amazing.

In a World . . . Poster - Signed by Lake Bell
Rick Swift's insight:
Yea, yea, everyone wants a prize these days.  Well, you may win a signed poster from Lake Bell’s new film “In a World…” signed by Lake Bell!  And, to sweeten the deal, here is a random picture of Lake Bell, coming out of a lake.  She doesn’t have a bell though, and that brings me to a point, you know what this post needs?  More cowbell! - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/other/images/in-a-world-poster-signed-by-lake-bell/#sthash.7Xe1EoGu.dpuf

Planes Movie Review by Rick Swift of iratefilms.com
Rick Swift's insight:
In the end, Dusty faces a lesson that he not only absorbs himself but the others in the film pick up a few things as this crazy crop-dusting plane, who is afraid of heights, attempts the ridiculous. Fortune favors the bold, whilst the timid are trapped in society’s mold. If you have little ones that liked the Cars movies, this will make them just as happy. But, as the rating suggests, they may not understand everything that is happening. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/planes/#sthash.QvTRiPl3.dpuf

We're the Millers Review by Madison of iratefilms.com
Rick Swift's insight:
Overall “We’re the Millers” was sometimes predictable, sometimes original, and always outrageous.  Although it was quite funny and humorous complications ensued, I thought the film went on a bit too long.  With a running time of nearly two hours, it was long for a comedy.  Even though it was a story of a family, this movie is NOT family-friendly.  Leave the kids at home for this one.  Be sure to stick around before and during the credits for some outtakes.  One in particular was delightful and a real blast from the past!! - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/were-the-millers/#sthash.Jc57sp9B.dpuf

2 Guns - South Florida Movie Reviews by I Rate Films | Film reviews | Scoop.it
2 Guns
Rick Swift's insight:
The H-Bomb: Would be drug peddlers Bobby Trench (Denzel Washington) and Stig Stigman (Mark Wahlberg) hatch a scheme to rob a small town bank holding three million dollars that belong to Mexican narcotics kingpin Papi Greco (Edward James Olmos). The overly complicated heist goes down without a hitch, except for one thing, instead of finding three million in cash stashed in the safety deposit boxes, they find that the figure is much closer to 43 million. What’s more, that money doesn’t belong entirely to Greco, but to a much shadier organization operating north of the border. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/2-guns/#sthash.26DQAbVs.dpuf

The Fate of the Furious - Film Grouch

The Fate of the Furious - Film Grouch | Film reviews | Scoop.it
The latest installment in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise races into theaters this weekend. Although there was definitely a part missing (R.I.P. Paul Walker), The Fate of the Furious was an excellent continuation of the storyline. Featuring an exciting street race through Havana, a giant wrecking ball, a prison riot, a zombie car-apocalypse, a giant submarine, and the most philosophical villain I’ve met in a long time, The Fate of the Furious was a fast-paced, funny, emotional ride.

Blackfish full of blow-holes - South Florida Movie Reviews by I Rate Films

Blackfish full of blow-holes - South Florida Movie Reviews by I Rate Films | Film reviews | Scoop.it
Blackfish Film Review by Rick Swift
Rick Swift's insight:

Blackfish - Dawn lived doing what she loved. Dawn died doing what she loved. We should all be so lucky, and if I ever get the call that my friend dies at Sea World, so be it. I’ll be beyond devastated, but I will know that he died doing something he believed in . . . just like when I was in the Marines, folks. If I died when I was in, my family would have been devastated, but I would have died doing something I believed in. All the film-makers are looking to do is capitalize on Dawn’s death, they don’t believe in what she stood for.

Kick-Ass 2 - South Florida Movie Reviews by I Rate Films

Kick-Ass 2 - South Florida Movie Reviews by I Rate Films | Film reviews | Scoop.it
Kick-Ass 2
Rick Swift's insight:
I had fun.  I laughed.  I didn’t cry, but I was surprised a few times, but in the end, Kick-Ass 2 didn’t (and perhaps shouldn’t) surpass the original, not by a long-shot. Sorry folks, this is no Lethal Weapon 2, but it will kick your ass, a little, the second time around. Ultimately, Kick-Ass was so good, as I gave it six-stars (out of five) that the bar was just set a little too high for the sequel, and without Director Matthew Vaughn, it just wasn’t as good.  Directors matter, folks. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/kick-ass-two/#sthash.T251yICb.dpuf

Lovelace Film Review by Rick Swift of iratefilms.com
Rick Swift's insight:
While this is really a story about a wayward Catholic girl in a marriage she doesn’t understand, and dealing with her out-of-touch mother, what resonated the most, for me, was Robert Patrick’s role, as Linda’s father, John.  He truly loves Linda, and he tries to be there for her, and he doesn’t judge her . .  . but in one scene the true emotion of his pain is incredibly gut-wrenching by Robert Patrick.  I give him the highest of praise for that one scene, and what he was able to do with minor screen time. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/lovelace/#sthash.hfuvSGiJ.dpuf

Only God Forgives Movie Review by H-Man of iratefilms.com
Rick Swift's insight:
Though the lead performances are subtle and first rate, the real star of Only God Forgives is director Refn himself. Working from his own screenplay this time, he has truly crafted a film of savage beauty. Every shot in the movie could be put in a frame and displayed in an art gallery, they are that meticulously composed and that gorgeously lit. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/only-god-forgives-2/#sthash.QLKrApKx.dpuf

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - South Florida Movie Reviews by I Rate Films | Film reviews | Scoop.it
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Movie Review by Madison of iratefilms.com
Rick Swift's insight:
I thought the filmmakers did a fantastic job blending ancient Greek mythology with modern times.   The use of Fall Out Boy’s song “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark” while the half-mortals participated in a physical endurance competition was a good choice.  “Percy Jackson” is a solid fantasy flick, along the lines of the “Harry Potter” series.  Since this one left it wide open, I really hope this series continues - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/percy-jackson-sea-of-monsters/#sthash.lSjYcDBl.dpuf

Turbo Film Review by Michael Carter of iratefilms.com
Rick Swift's insight:
The animation was really nice looking, but I’m not a big fan of the style. Like the way the people look, body wise. Again, it was still clean looking and smooth. I thought the story was fun with a good playthrough. It’s a turbo charged snail, burning rubber at 200+ mph, with his own neon ground effects. You can’t help but laugh! For a high speed movie, it does drag a bit here and there. Overall, it’s a flick the family can enjoy. - See more at: http://iratefilms.com/reviews/film-reviews/turbo/#sthash.Uvc6k7Eo.dpuf
