The Advantages of Knowledge Sharing

The best part about this is that people are sharing their knowledge and ideas without expecting any immediate return on their investment of time and resources. Instead, there is a sort of unwritten rule to “pay it forward” because someday soon you will be the one needing advice.

Pay it forward - like that @justcoachcit

As long as it does not put the company at risk or jeopardize their innovations that may be a competitive edge. Discretion is the better part of valor?

For Educators, the Importance of Making Meaningful Connections

For Educators, the Importance of Making Meaningful Connections | Film, Art, Design, Transmedia, Culture and Education | Scoop.it
By Matt Levinson It's connected educator month.

There’s a flurry of activity among teachers and administrators looking to connect through Twitter and other social media to advance their learning, especially as a new school year looms.

As schools gear up and prepare for a new school year with technology increasingly ubiquitous, now’s the time to consider how schools can create a positive impact with technology.

Professor Alec Couros captures the essential element for schools to keep in mind as they move forward with technology initiatives. In an interview with Howard Rheingold for Digital Media and Learning, he comments on the need to focus on “what will endure,” the importance of connections and relationships to help foster, build and sustain the life of the “networked” teacher.

A different pattern of student engagement: Mature distance students at university

A different pattern of student engagement: Mature distance students at university | Film, Art, Design, Transmedia, Culture and Education | Scoop.it

Mature students have:

- Equal levels of satisfaction

- Deeper learning strategies

- more committed / motivated

- Different pattern of interaction (less interaction with other students)

- Better able to manage distance (have the life skills and time-management skills

- Experience a lot of role and financial pressure, alienation and anxiety

- Lack of skills (don't necessarily have the up to date skills required...yet another thing to learn in the first year)

- Overload of first year

- Knowledge conflict

The definition of student engagement for this study comes from the OSSIE: "The time and energy students invest in educationally purposeful activities, and the effort institutions devote to effective engagement".

===> The scales of engagement include academic challenge, work integrated learning, active learning, enriching education experiences, and staff and student interactions. <===
