What a great means to bring creativity and discovery into the classroom.

Katiebelle Wheelock's curator insight, March 29, 2013 4:36 PM

This is an amazing site!! The site encourages children to be creative by presenting activities of DIY crafts to make. Children make a profile where they can post the projects they are working on and connect with other children to share ideas and offer feedback. The basis behind the website is for children to earn patches by learning specific skills. Each skill is made up of a set of challenges that the child attempts in order to learn the skill and then earn a patch. The challenges are designed to be open-ended so that children can invent their own solutions. The challenges and skill based learning allows children to learn plenty of new skills through DIY activities. The skills can be incorporating into a curriculum to help inspire the students!

» Gartner’s Software Hype Cycles for 2012 and Beyond! FUTUREPREDICTIONS.COM Source of Likely and Preferable Futures ™ | FETC Tools | Scoop.it

The hype cycles help evaluating various technologies, to see their maturity and suitability for investment. If a technology has just started and it is on the rise, then it may be useful to start integrating it in the technology planning process, or maybe start building on it to have a head start against competitors, but the latest approach involves high risk due to technology’s immaturity. Technologies at the peak or sliding into the trough of disillusionment get a lot of press coverage but they are not necessarily technologies that will survive or thrive in the following years. Technologies found climbing the slope and entering the plateau are considered by Gartner as mature and stable, suitable for investment.

Jacob Standish's insight:

Very interesting to see where technologies are such as BYOD and Virtual Desktops.
