EXCLUSIVE: Bronx teacher raped by city cop continues fight to get ‘rape is rape’ bill through Albany | Feminist Army | Scoop.it
ALBANY — The brave Bronx teacher brutally raped by a city cop is appalled the Legislature ended its legislative session last month without passing a bill to expand the state’s legal definition of the heinous crime.
Tempibones's insight:

Wait. So if you're NOT RAPED VAGINALLY in all but 8 states does that mean your rape didn't count?

A Conservative’s Defense of Feminism

A Conservative’s Defense of Feminism | Feminist Army | Scoop.it

by ROBBY BARTHELMESS (Policymic)

This notion of a "war on men" creates a "crying wolf" scenario when real issues that adversely affect men come up. We do a disservice to these cases by combating them through a use of the "war on men" claim.

If you were to take a look at "feminism" in Merriam-Webster's dictionary, you would find two definitions; 1. the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes and 2. organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests.

In my opinion, this makes any sane, rational person a feminist. So you needn't be out screaming "war on women" to call yourself a feminist. If you believe that men and women should be treated equally in political, economic, and social affairs — then you are, by definition, a feminist.  MORE

Party Recon's comment, July 19, 2013 12:44 AM
I think to say that there is no "war on men" is to miss the entire point. There IS a war on men -- men who think that they are the stronger, more deserving, and superior to their female counterparts. Men who believe in traditional family values. That is to say, those who would have our society nostalgically return to the 1800's where a woman's job was to tend to the children and the home, making sure to look pretty when hubby comes home from work, fetch his slippers, pipe, and smoking jacket, prop his feet up on a footstool and give them a proper massage while he sips scotch she's served up in a crystal rocks glass. Next, a dinner fit for the king of the castle is provided fresh from the oven and well, you get the picture.

Now here's the thing; there is absolutely nothing wrong with a man seeking these things in a women. The fact of the matter is that there are plenty of women who will gladly enter into this type of relationship. And as they say here in Australian -- Good on them. However, when these values are applied to the workplace, they should and must be warred on.

Work is define as:
Noun: Activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
Verb: Be engaged in physical or mental activity in order to achieve a purpose or result, esp. in one's job; do work.

Believing that women are somehow less capable of carrying on such activities reeks of prejudice bordering on that of a slave owner and sadly, many of these neanderthals have perfected this perversity. So I say, war away! All that is required is a clearer definition of who exactly is the enemy.

The Irish Abortion Bill Reveals a Deeply Ingrained Disregard for the Personhood of Women

The Irish Abortion Bill Reveals a Deeply Ingrained Disregard for the Personhood of Women | Feminist Army | Scoop.it
It is time opponents of abortion realise that the debate surrounding the legalisation of abortion is not simply a question about the biological health of the mother, or the imagined potential of the foetus.
Tempibones's insight:

The important question here is: How positive a step towards women's rights has the Irish government made if it considers death to be the only valid release clause from an unwanted pregnancy?

Okay, so maybe you are a man. Maybe you haven't had the easiest ride in life—maybe you grew up in poverty; you've experienced death, neglect, and despair; you hate your job, your car, your body.
Tempibones's insight:

[Excerpt] "I wish, more than anything, that I could just be a "humanist." Oh, man, that would be amazing! Because that would mean that we lived in a magical world where all humans were born on equal footing, and maybe I could live in a house shaped like a big mushroom and birds would help me get dressed or something."

BREAKING: NC GOP Turns Motorcycle Safety Bill Into Abortion Bill With No Public Notice

BREAKING: NC GOP Turns Motorcycle Safety Bill Into Abortion Bill With No Public Notice | Feminist Army | Scoop.it

WASHINGTON -- North Carolina House Republicans are pushing legislation that would restrict abortion access, attaching the measure to an unrelated motorcycle safety bill on Wednesday and giving neither the public nor Democratic legislators any advance notice.

On Wednesday morning, state Rep. Joe Sam Queen (D) wrote on Twitter, "New abortion bill being heard in the committee I am on. The public didn't know. I didn't even know."

"I wish I had more time to look at this new bill before I had to ask questions about it or debate it," he added.

The bill then passed the state House Judiciary Committee in a 10-5 party-line vote.

The stealth maneuver came after North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) threatened to veto a similar Senate bill on Wednesday morning. The Senate legislation would require abortion providers to meet strict licensing standards and would mandate that a doctor is present for the entire procedure.
