Crooks steal Christmas gifts for needy kids from Florida gym (VIDEO)

Crooks steal Christmas gifts for needy kids from Florida gym (VIDEO) | Favorite News | Scoop.it

FORT MYERS - Some crooks broke into a Fort Myers gym and stole all of the Christmas presents that the members had been collecting for kids in need.

It's the sixth year that Fort Myers Fitness 24/7 has gathered gifts. This year, 31 families at Harns Marsh Middle School were on the gym's Christmas list.

It's a campus where many kids are in need. But the choice of a thief has put the families' Christmas in jeopardy.

Toys, bikes and cash were all donated just in time for Christmas.

A week before the holiday, the gym turns into Santa's workshop where people sort gifts and build bikes.

That's how this year was supposed to go. But thieves stole the Christmas cheer. The gym was vandalized; 12 bikes and over $700 in cash, donations and toys are all gone.

Some of them are one-of-a-kind.

"Two pair of signed shoes from the Denver Nuggets - number 35 and Ty Lawson," Raymond said.

The shoes were a part of a raffle that is supposed to happen next week at the gym's bench press competition.

The gym donates what it can and then raises more money during the lifting contest to buy more for the kids.

As Fort Myers Fitness deals with the broken key cards, a missing surveillance system and jimmied locks, Raymond says he sees the damage for what it is - a scratch when compared to the thought of so many kids not getting a Christmas...

Meth found 'hanging out of woman's private area' during Florida traffic stop

Meth found 'hanging out of woman's private area' during Florida traffic stop | Favorite News | Scoop.it

VOLUSIA COUNTY -- It started Friday afternoon in DeBary as a routine traffic stop for a Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy, who ended up making two arrests and seizing all of the components of a mobile meth lab.

The deputy stopped the vehicle along West 2nd Street and Naranja Road at about 1:37 p.m. after discovering that the vehicle’s tag was expired. But the deputy found a whole lot more -- drugs everywhere, including inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, in the trunk, on the suspects, the drugs they left behind in a patrol car and even drugs shoved inside a woman’s privates.

A female deputy, who had been called to the scene along with the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force to assist with the search, noticed a container hanging out of Ainsworth’s private area. That also turned out to contain methamphetamine. The search then moved on to the trunk of the car, where all the makings of a mobile math lab were found -- such as a plastic bottle, kerosene in a can, gasoline and an over-the-counter medicine commonly used in the making of methamphetamine.

Cookies and Two Kilos of Cocaine Found in Christmas Present Addressed to Florida Woman (VIDEO)

Cookies and Two Kilos of Cocaine Found in Christmas Present Addressed to Florida Woman (VIDEO) | Favorite News | Scoop.it

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — U.S. Postal Inspectors said they discovered two kilos of cocaine inside a Christmas present that was addressed to an Orlando woman.

Investigators said after they discovered the drugs, agents went undercover and delivered the package to a woman at the Lake Barton Villa off of Semoran Boulevard.

According to investigators, the woman initially said she was expecting a gift but once agents confronted her inside her apartment they said she told them it wasn't her package.

"Every day we're doing sorts through the mail, using dogs, drug sniffling dogs," said MBI Director Larry Zwieg, "We find packages daily through the mail."

Zwieg pointed out two large packages that he said came from the same person in Puerto Rico in the past week.

Both of the packages were wrapped in Christmas gift wrap and sent Express Mail.

Zwieg said one of the packages was sent to the Orlando apartment complex and addressed to Marla Muriel.

According to Zwieg, when an undercover postal inspector posed as a mail carrier, a woman, Bethzaida Albelo, claimed to be Muriel and signed for the package.

Zwieg said the second package was picked up by Damian Martinez at a home in south Orange County. Martinez said it was a gift for his cousin, according to Zwieg.

Investigators said when they unwrapped the boxes they found packages loaded with cookies and other snacks and they said they found 2 kilos of cocaine in each box...
