Fat sociology and fat activism
The monopoly over suffering and causes: do you have to be gay to oppose violence against gay people? Do you have to be a woman to be feminist? Black to fight against racism towards black people? Fat to oppose discrimination against fat people? Unfortunately, to some activists, you do. I have recently been surprised by the hostile reaction of a fat young activist to my anti-discrimination writing. The problem was that I am not fat and everything I wrote was immediately labeled as hyprocritical, patronizing and fat-phobic. Since a lot of my writing indirectly (sometimes directly) tackles this subject, I decided to curate some material and be better prepared to handle the discussion.
