Host Andy Cohen, subtly hinting at Hillary Clinton, besides having the honor to later on present Oscar de la Renta with his Founder’s Award, had the best line of the night at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards. Believe-you-me there were no shortages of mesmerizing moments- beginning with the huge yet life-saving short thunderstorm that swept through Manhattan just moments before cocktail hour. Surely deals were made with the weather Gods by Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb to save plenty of souls from disaster.
The evening’s first standing ovation was dished out to Secretary of State Clinton, and while thanking her for her speech, de la Renta almost got one himself when saying, “I hope she’s going to be our next President”. Magnificent till the final act, the designer praised every single nominee, stating, “You’re all winners, because your work is extraordinary”.
The Swarovski prizes for Menswear, Accessories, and Womenswear went to Public School, Pamela Love, and Suno. The audience got a blissfully excited look as Erin Beatty walked up the staircases to accept the statuette for Suno. Although sweet, it was nowhere near as cute as after her ending thank-you’s when she turned to her business partner Max Osterweis, giving him a swift kiss and telling him, “And thank you”. Next up came Lazaro Hernandez, on stage yet again to receive the Designer of the Year prize after Proenza Schouler’s 2011 win, calling his partner Jack McCollough the love of his life and stating, “We’re living a dream”. Let’s not forget about Thom Browne and Phillip Lim winning the Menswear and Accessories Designer of the Year Awards as well!
Let’s kick it up a notch shall we? Riccardo Tisci’s celebrity presenter was none other than the gorgeous Jessica Chastain (and yes, by Tisci, we mean the International Award honoree). Just as sensational was his video, featuring Kanye West, Liv Tyler, teared-up Joan Smalls, and Tisci himself, all sitting in a wooden chair in the center of a room. Not until the end did a turn of the camera reveal that Tisci’s pal Marina Abramovic was sitting across from them. She had recreated her performance piece The Artist is Present for the occasion. Talk about a good friend!
Last but not least it is imperative that we mention one of the other standing ovations obtained by Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Vera Wang. “How do you define a lifetime?” she began.
"Looking back can be both difficult and diminishing. But what I can do is acknowledge the courage, passion, and efforts that define every designer in this room. I am blessed to be among you."

Australian swimwear company Seafolly will open its first U.S store in Newport Beach’s Fashion Island mall in October. Not to be mistaken, this brand has already been wholesaling in the U.S for 5 years through Everything but Water, Diane’s, Anthropology, Zappos, Amazon, and has an exclusive line for Nordstrom. The new location will mark Seafolly’s 40th P.O.S, after the first 36 down under and 3 more in Singapore.
Expanding from its backbone of swim separates and limited edition swim collection, two branches that are experiencing major growth are its apparel and accessories lines. The new location will offer all four of Seafolly’s creative contributions to its customers. “Orange County is a logical place for us to start to learn the U.S market”, said CEO Anthony Halas, who has been guiding the business since 1998, a business created from the ground up by his parents in 1975.
Their latest creations will be placed on display this month at the Miami Swim Show, highlighting fluorescent colors, minimal floral prints and Palm Springs-inspired sunset prints. At this moment the face of this enticing brand is non-other than French model Camille Rowe. Can’t you guys get here any faster? The heat is melting us away and we need to look fabulous while doing so !
