This was a surreal experience for me. To see people thousands of miles apart (Gambia west Africa, St. Lucia, Caribbean & Vermont, USA) all rocking to the same beat generated from L.I.U. in Brooklyn. As I watch each location I felt the spirit of their movements present and mingling with the spirits of the live dancers in front of me at L.I.U. The spirits were strong, at times overwhelming for me. It touched the dancer within the soul of this body I have. Thanks Bonnie; Thanks Marlies; Ron and thanks all of you wonderful dancers, and crew.

Seamus McGarvey, the cinematographer from The Avengers movie, revealed in a recent interview that some of the shots were taken with the iPhone and included in the final film cut.. On The Avengers, I did a couple of shots on the iPhone and they are in the movie. In fact, they are in the trailer!
It's Saturday afternoon in the bar of a beachfront hotel in Copacabana, Rio, and the 59-year-old French fashion designer and former Eurotrash presenter Jean Paul Gaultier is sitting quietly at a table.
In an increasingly competitive digital landscape, apparel and accessory brands are looking for ways to make their mark and influence potential consumers.
I do not serve a Brand focusedmarket.. evn in Fashion. consumers who shop teh designers ai work with meet the product, It's uniqueness creativity, story, it's quality and then the designer! Which presents a challenge!
When a brand has it's house in order this is a natural step... the gilding as such on the lily... but to depend on Blogger... when your line, Brand directives, production and distribution has problem... is a BAD idea! Unfortunately that what stories like this (unintentionally ) promote! Designers are quicker to hire PR agents that production , design or Branding talent !
Fashion Draft NYC will bring a select group of top business-minded students from around the world to New York City over the weekend of FEBRUARY 16th-18th, 2012 to network and interview with fashion executives, with a chance to earn full-time,...
I make no bones about my campaign to Democratize the world fashion stage and supports efforts that will expose TALENT from around the world to opportunities! Hence www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com This NYCED NY offer will allows young graduates such as students from The Caribbean Academy of Fashion & Design at UTT in my native Trinidad unprecedented access to opportunities in NY fashion industry! However when smaller governments invest in the education (university education is free n TT) efforts like this often result in a brain drain! So yes I am a tad bit concerned about what this will mean for local industries and the investment of their governments! On the other hand, that experience & exposure can directly benefit smaller fashion sectors… So how are these companies going to give back to the larger world stage of fashion development!

ASVOFF Winner: Elisha Smith-Leverock - The winner of the A Shaded View on Fashion Film competition speaks to us about her new film featuring female body-builder Kizzy Vaines...
Bs- So here's the winner of teh ASVOFF ... a greaT video but for us a Brooklyn Fashion Film Festival... It essentially stresses teh subtle difference we are hoping to establish... if the "Fashion Film" is a means to sell a designers brand and eventually product ...what is the right format! We chose to have our designers intoduce themselves and tell their stories! we curated teh designers notteh stories... In an open market all qualifying designers should be able to show!
Want to create excitement around your brand? Learn how live-streaming video can keep your brand's fans interested and engaged
There's a natural drop-off in viewers during any event, even with the excitement and staying power of live streams... true but that may have to do more with teh design of the video! content! Simply watch someone walk up then down a runway is ... well "BORING" There is no Clicjk through no information ... no connection! We're hoping to address that at www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com
"Drenched in black with her ever-present lace mantilla and catseye sunglasses, Diane Pernet is one of the most recognisable figures on the fashion landscape.
Well Ms Pernet may be pleased to know that an independent designers from around the world are actually looking at the Fashion Film to replace the Catwalk! We’re connected via Social Media speak and discuss industry via video even sell across international waters using video! This is a Natural progression!
In November we stage www.BrooklynfashionFilmfestival.com as our www.Brooklynfashionweek.com format, as Small and medium sized indie designers we have the flexibility!
We are still finalizing details for the November event and it should be noted we started working on this in 2005/6 the minute we realized we could stream video on our Mambo install and go live with "Mogulus" (now Livestream)
Our challenge as we see it though is presenting more than a "moving runway show," and in fact "telling Story" while at the same time .. "selling our product", which ultimately is what the Catwalk is meant to achieve!
As a catwalk substitute (as since this is the first year ) we have also had to be a bit more "open"! Basically this Fashion Film festival is a new platform, we've chosen also to Look towards movements in "Social Tv" , "Social Retail" and tele-presence! We're working with several NYTech startups, allowing these new technologies to extend the storytelling & conversation & re-define how we show and sell!
ASVOFF was one of 3-4 Fashion Film festivals we came across when researching our concept!
I Wholeheartedly agree that "Too many incomes are dependent on the existence of catwalk presentations", However for the independent designer it's a matter of survival that cost has become prohibitive with very little to show in return!
Many have also Lost control of their stories, their “voice’ in the recent spate of catwalk shows poppin up! We encourage others to look towards the format!
It’s Simple too many are afraid to err so they exude many of the "anachronistic" state Ms Pernet alluded to! We opted to " take the bull by the horns and make some brave decisions"...
We've Introduced them to many mentioned above (http://Bkstyle.brooklynfashionweek.com) . Held workshops on technology, storytelling and video! For the November event we've asked designers and industry professionals to introduce themselves! and their collection/work opting to have them explore the medium! This year we’ve given designers free reign to create their moving storyboards, and while I have no idea what to expect we understand that artist grow and that the very act of beginning paves way so that eventually they’re " done well, ...a timeless and classic style of presentation"!
Btw I am emailing this to the designers this interview from another voice
I don't need 10 image apps I need one image app that serves my needs, Same with video! However as we tested video apps last week at a wifi cafe in Brooklyn The tought came to mind, I need a fasteer netwrok! So yes Kansas looks real good now!
I've been saying we have a wealth of tech tools and it's time for Innovation and disruption in the WAY we use them to make business more efficeint!
I am asking them to rethink the way they do thinks and how it affects their bottom line ... I don't see it as disruptive, that's just smart! designing based on need, intimate knowledge of the sector and trial and error... but can we find the time to submmit... if i can figure out teh parameters!
The product developer in me wants to sit those running the competition down for a session on communicating their ideas... LOL if I can fight that urge then maybe!
"If reading and writing were once reserved for the elite but then eventually became common knowledge, who’s to say the same won’t be true of proficiency in the ability to communicate using new technical languages?
At the very least, learning even just a little about these new technologies could go a long way. I would love one day to read a story of someone who was unemployed for 2+ years, decided to teach themselves how to code, and landed an amazing job not long thereafter. I’m sure the stories are already out there, but I believe there are many more yet to be told.
The four R’s: Reading, (w)riting, ‘rithmetic, and (p)’rogramming"
The Full List of Top 100 Tech companies... How Many have you heard of!
In NY thereare two worlds The Silicon state (Silicon Alley and Silicon "Beach") and The "normals" seldom do the two meet!
In 2006/7 , I remember spaking to a designer who wanted to create a rental service for teh gowns they showcased as a solution for the indie couturier! She's still has not started... yet "Rent The Runway' is on this list! Are you letting A great Idea go... Or missing out on the new trends and directions!
If there were any sleep-plaguing doubts that designers matter, the recent crash of Target’s website as it debuted its collaboration with Missoni should help you rest easy....A brand is a product, service, concept, or even a person, that is publicly distinguished from other products, services, concepts, or people by meaning.
In 24 hours, 80 developers needed to create the most innovative video prototypes possible. Here's a look at the hackathon's clear winners.
What is a fashion Group doing @hackdaytv... we plan to utilize video as a platform to show an d sell! www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com I was clear on what we needed Tools... not gadgets and so i needed to discover what each API could do... Video is going to BLOW UP is all I can say! Still trying to digest som eof teh hacks! I also found what I need... sort of... more on that later!
Ok so I went to research and learn, we've been exploring video fro fashion since 2005/6 and there was no better place to sink my teeth into the new video API's
