Event Recap: The State of Fashion Tech A Keynote By Liza Kindred

Event Recap: The State of Fashion Tech A Keynote By Liza Kindred | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
We hear about new fashion tech startups popping up left and right every day. But what we don’t hear about is how the industry is like right now. Everything is a haze. Numbers are tossed around, but...
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

Our Fashion Tech Coworking Space in Brooklyn directly addresses "where are the Blacks in the Fashion Tech  Space?"

Where are those involved in the apparel industry! For the  most part these Fashion Tech  companies are by  individuals with Little or no  Fashion Experience! Those with Fashion experience have little or no knowledge of the scope of tech!

I've kept close tabs on the Fashion Tech  space and since The Last FashionCamp I've personally found little that addresses my interest!  yet i recommend this to all in the apparel business!

Watch live streaming video from internetsocietychapters at livestream.com 3D printed houses, potholes filled with a "3D printed carpet", The construction sector becomes more white collar self cleaning architecture!
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

Now think seriously  where will we be in 30 years! It's difficult  getting INDEPENDENT designers to truly explore the potential of this and other technologies. Teh learning curve is still way too high. teh software sites are not very  consumer friendly even for the brave such as I!  i'm still trying to use teh shape ways  2D to 3D and have no idae what the hell i'm doing wrongand cannot find the  basic help guide...  so for others, I Know they won't even touch this stuff!

but it is important... to get onboard asap!

Fashion 2.0 | Topshop and Google Plan Data-Savvy Digital Runway

Fashion 2.0 | Topshop and Google Plan Data-Savvy Digital Runway | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
LONDON, United Kingdom — In recent cycles, fashion shows, once closed industry events, have become something of a spectator sport for the hundreds of thousands of people who follow the play-by-play online.
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

It's easy  for larger  companies to shape how technology affects their business... but what about the local independents! i'm an advocate for the adoption of such technology and we've been exploring how it shapes our  reality since 2005...

to quate the article ...

"...driving social buzz is only part of Topshop’s strategy. Equally important is data. In fact, the large amount of data generated by millions of consumers interacting with the various elements of “The Future of the Fashion Show” has the potential to be valuable, if captured, sifted and analysed correctly.

Indeed, the brand’s “Be the Buyer” app alone promises to be a useful source of timely insight into what pieces resonate most with consumers long before they hit the shop floor, data that can be used to make more efficient business decisions, like how much of a particular type of product to manufacture and stock — and in what colours..."

data and the independent is at the core of our focus this year! www.bonniesandy.com/blog

Fashion Incubator » Blog Archive » What do good designers have in common? pt.2 | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it

The core elements I was looking for transcend design per se because if one only wanted design direction, one could hire stylists, consultants, merchandisers and/or subscribe to trend forecasting services. That said, Sarah’s comment bears airing:

A good designer is one whose ideas sell and make a profit. Nothing else is essential. He/she can be knowledgeable or not, can be pleasant or a total (your favorite epitaph here). It doesn’t matter. If they sell, they are a good designer.

Bonnie Sandy's insight:

I finally made the time to read  one of my favorite fashion blogs! the best advice just go ahead and subscribe... she's that good!

Fashion Incubator » Blog Archive » What is a marker? | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it

Markers are a guide used in the cutting process. It is long sheet of bond paper with all of the pattern pieces used to make a style laid out in a configuration intended to reduce fabric waste as much as is possible, including all of the sizes you’d need of a given style. Markers are often made by computer and printed out with a plotter. The marker is laid on top of the fabric layers which cutters then use to cut out all of the pieces at once.

Bonnie Sandy's insight:
