The Right to be forgotton vs the right to information- Google struggles to find Balance.

We’ve taken this approach because, as article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."

But the European Court found that people have the right to ask for information to be removed from search results that include their names if it is “inadequate, irrelevant or no longer relevant, or excessive.” In deciding what to remove, search engines must also have regard to the public interest. These are, of course, very vague and subjective tests. The court also decided that search engines don’t qualify for a “journalistic exception.” This means that The Guardian could have an article on its website about an individual that’s perfectly legal, but we might not legally be able to show links to it in our results when you search for that person’s name. It’s a bit like saying the book can stay in the library, it just cannot be included in the library’s card catalogue.

It’s for these reasons that we disagree with the ruling. That said, we obviously respect the court’s authority and are doing our very best to comply quickly and responsibly. It’s a huge task as we’ve had over 70,000 take-down requests covering 250,000 webpages since May. So we now have a team of people individually reviewing each application, in most cases with limited information and almost no context.

Bonnie Sandy's insight:

The fact is that most people who want info removed are the very ones whose info needs to be up as a warning to others of exactly what they are  capable of... a politician accused of scams for example or a child sex offender...  i wantto be able to serch and know... s that  worth say teh exclusion of my address or can we deal with the exclusion of that type of info in  a better way!

Stop Saying “Do What You Love, Love What You Do.” It Devalues Actual Work.

Stop Saying “Do What You Love, Love What You Do.” It Devalues Actual Work. | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it

“One consequence of this isolation is the division that DWYL creates among workers, largely along class lines. Work becomes divided into two opposing classes: that which is lovable (creative, intellectual, socially prestigious) and that which is not (repetitive, unintellectual, undistinguished). Those in the lovable-work camp are vastly more privileged in terms of wealth, social status, education, society’s racial biases, and political clout, while comprising a small minority of the workforce."

Bonnie Sandy's insight:

Being paid for good loving  feel like, well prostitution- Yes I love my love "work"! I also enjoy what I labor at, which is why I value and expect  the best compensation!  Too many  creatives feel guilty expecting  compensation...  It's a simple midset change that makes a huge difference!

If Luxury Brands Want to Ignore #Africa then it's time for Africa to create it's own @BoF | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
LONDON, United Kingdom — Earlier this year, Nigeria became Africa’s largest economy and the 26th largest economy in the world, valued at $509 billion, based on GDP figures that were recalculated using a base year of 2010 instead of 1990. Given Nigeria’s new status, as well as its new crop of millionaires and billionaires, who have become wealthy through oil (Nigeria is the 11th largest oil-producing nation in the world), Nollywood entertainment and other business ventures, one might assume that major luxury good companies would turn their attention towards Nigeria, as well as other emerging markets in Africa, as an important … More

Op-Ed | Why Fashion is the Next Big Thing in Venture Capital - BoF - The Business of Fashion

Op-Ed | Why Fashion is the Next Big Thing in Venture Capital - BoF - The Business of Fashion | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
NEW YORK, United States — Software as a service (SaaS), enterprise and mobile all have one thing in common: they are the bread and butter of most venture capital firms and angel investors. You would be hard pressed to find a VC who doesn’t have a portfolio dominated by tech start-ups. But as the global economy evolves, we are beginning to see disruptions in areas that were once ignored. However, there is still one industry that has yet to go mainstream with investors: fashion. It’s no surprise that fashion isn’t really on the radar of most traditional Silicon Valley investors — … More

Small #Startup #Black & even #Fashiontech communities Shouldn't Copy International Tech Hubs

Small #Startup #Black & even #Fashiontech communities Shouldn't Copy International Tech Hubs | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
Look at the attention paid to stories coming out of tech hubs and evaluate your local strengths. Your local startup community should do something different.
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

This is so on point. I'm tired of Fashion incubators run by folks with no actual experience running the production or tech end of a fashion business. So to them any solution is "Innovative", but will it actually work... Press that laud "innovation" that are not harm a sector. at teh end of it all if teh clothing does not FIT... so we end up with tee shirts as teh major offering of fashiontech companies
fashion is simply the example you can check any sector...

The sad fact that few are willing to point out is that a tremendous amount of resources are being wasted or not getting into the correct hand. I look at two criteria. as a user how well does this address my need, and how close is this company to addresing their core mission.
As mentioned star speakers press etc in the end if the problem is not solved, the market moves on, and if a startup has not figured out its business and revenue model, that company will be gone.
Niche target groups, in Local market globally share a lot of the same challenges, weakness, strengths and what they have access to may vary. I'd suggest connecting with those freelancers you hope to help globally. Get to know their needs. I work with Fashion designer and by extension creatives, essentially cottage sector. I've decided on a slow design approach, which allows me to test solutions as well as adjust as needed, I've found similar problem may require slight variations in solution.

Is a creative genius really just a copycat - what's your take

Is a creative genius really just a copycat - what's your take | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
Where does creativity come from? When someone invents something new, we call them a genius. From the outside, it appears this person came up with the idea, product or service all by himself or herself. We have characterized the term “genius” to mean something very personal or self-contained. If this has any truth, it certainly puts enormous pressure on the very few geniuses that live in our world.
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

Is a creative genius really just a copycat -  what's your take - only someone who has never had a moment of creative "inspiration" would say this. Having run and attended creativity  sessions, workshops, challenges where the same info is presented to all,  I cannot agree. There is still a level of genius that  some show and others do not! Creativity feeds off "influence" but  given the same info , in the    same setting,  Genius has an  opportunity to shine!

Scaling a Craft-Based Business - sound, strong production facility & focused distribution via BoF | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
NORTHAMPTON, United Kingdom — No fewer than eleven rivers dissect the countryside surrounding Northampton. From the river Avon’s tortuous upper-course, habitually prone to breaking its banks, to Rains Brook’s shy babbling, the area’s unique topography, which supplies the constant streams of rushing water required to tan leather, has defined the English town and its inhabitants for centuries. “The visitor to Northampton will at once be reminded, by the leather aprons and grimy faces which haunt the streets, that he is in the land of shoemakers,” says Murray’s Handbook for Travellers, published in 1878. It’s a fitting description of a town … More
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

Craftsmanship  does not mean "of your own hands" a heritage brand can have have a sound and strong production facility, The challenge in the new craft economy is dispelling the belief that  a craft  brand is limited.  Training revising  production procedures, merchandising all the points entioned are applicable to any  small local business! Louis Vuitton and the Business of Globe-Trotting Cruise Collections - The Bottom Line via @BOF

Louis Vuitton and the Business of Globe-Trotting Cruise Collections - The Bottom Line via @BOF | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it

MONTE CARLO, Monaco — So much for a bit of intra-fashion week respite. For some members of the fashion flock, the past few weeks have been a glamorous blur of large-scale international events, targeting a global audience and staged outside the physical and temporal confines of the jam-packed, official fashion weeks which take place one after another in the main fashion capitals every September and February. "

"Cruise is summer clothes for people who travel in winter as wella s clothing delivered in november"
" Pre-collections, like cruise, hit the shop floor before the main Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer seasons and account for up to 70 percent of a brand’s ready-to-wear business....
Last year, the entire Louis Vuitton business is estimated to have generated almost $10 billion in revenues, according to Forbes. If the ready-to-wear business was assumed to be only 5 percent of this, it would already be worth about $500 million in annual revenue."

Bonnie Sandy's insight:

You cannot sell $100k, $1/2 mil or $3 mil till you can produce and deliver that value of goods! Thus spending $1-5 thousand on a
"fashion show" makes no sense till you can produce to sell $100k, $1/2 mil or $3 mil of good. Therein lies my  isue with the local fashion sector globally. They are mimicing a culture that is not designed to support they way they operate!
