#FashionTech Merges Online Offline Sales - 5 years since #fashioncampNYC #unconference

#FashionTech Merges Online Offline Sales - 5 years since #fashioncampNYC #unconference | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
With online sales up 17% and physical retail down 11%, it’s no wonder retailers large and small are increasingly living online. An alternative to simply shuttering the windows, though, is to experiment with new technologies to integrate the showroom, the storefront, and the web.
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

#FashionTech Merges Online Offline Sales - 5 years since @fashioncamp a #fashiontech #unconference. 10years since I started exploraing digital fashion. My cousin sent me this, yes #fashiontech is all the rage!
.
Why the sudden increased interest well according to BOF - "Fashion tech is "a $1.2 trillion market size, expected to grow to $2 trillion by 2018. To put that into perspective, the global SaaS market is around $20 billion. Cloud services is $131 billion. And enterprise software is $120 billion."

Check the video in teh original post! The interface looks slick but will it "work" somehow most in fashion cannot let go of standard procedures. - The only people who REALLY love going to the mall to actually shop for clothing are teenage girls! The store was the best solution pre-technology.

What about more practical logistics - Seriously why would I wait to go to the boutique, choose items, go to eat, then return for my fitting. When concpetually an Android Tv would allow me to have that experience on my 54"screen even place an order so that when I arrive at the store I can head straight to the fitting room! Better yet why leave the house- the items can be shipped and our stylist can work one on one via telepresence (few stylist actually are experts at fit). I could even have it delivered to my house by my own personal dressmaker so that it can be fitted to me.

We're stuck to the old way of doing things! Look I LOVE the fast paced growth of #fashiontech but really are they solving the pain points for the consumer...

A method for accommodating traditional TV signals could help Android TV gain a significant leg up when it comes to the set-top platform wars. If Google can build a way for live content to live alongside its on-demand services with an interface that makes sense, that will be more than most others have been able to accomplish thus far.

Y Combinator hires first black partner to recruit more minorities

Y Combinator hires first black partner to recruit more minorities | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
Michael Seibel is joining the incubator as a full-time partner to coach high-tech hopefuls.
Bonnie Sandy's insight:

@Ycombinator @mwseibel you can always engage existing #blackintech #urbantech groups on FB and Gplus. Meetup etc. or do a search SMH. I can never figure out why those with diversity mission post on media with diversity issues! If you want to reach potential black, LBGT, Hispanic or any another group there’s a hashtag and more than one community groups for that! I'm for teh cause so I'll share!

Seriously I applaud the effort but we need to be real …   Somehow companies who refuse to step into black or diversity niches to bring their message of #diversity bothers me!  Even the many “black organizations”  can seldom be found within in the black communities until it’s time to pay for their conference…

FYI There are several arms of the Blacks in tech movement ...
This is my cynic’s list …Yup not all #Blacksintech have the same MO… to find REAl talent you’ll need to go scouting.
The Mimic's those who try to fit black culture into Silicon....
The Urbanites those who try to simply add technology to the hood and stir ...
The social maverick they swear by @Mashables and exist on black twitter, they follow the mandates of gurus and influencers, never test theories and seldom read beyond what's the latest trend.
Then there are a few who can be found in hacker spaces, makerspaces, labs - the rebels...... you seldom see them.
There are the old timers this is the second boon for them, but many still stick by the rules of " the good old days..."
Finally are the community types... those who organize usually around tech in their passion.
The fact is we sort of know each other and keep distant tabs on each as we nurture the vision of black tech businesses....

It’s not Crochet, knit or tatting but a Nervous system 3d printed bodice

"Unique to the Kinematics' design is a print without any parts that need to be clipped together or adjusted after 3D printing. The hinges are 3D printed into the bodice and designed in such a way that allows it to be 'folded' to fit into the printing space. As you may expect, the reality was not quite as straightforward as the theory, but the designers overcame the challenges.

Bonnie Sandy's insight:

It’s not Crochet, knit or tatting but a “Nervous system 3d printed” bodice – sometime in the future we will need to  find a simple word for “Nervous system 3d printed”

The Softer--And More Wearable--Future Of #Wearables #fashiontech | Fashion Technology Designers & Startups | Scoop.it
A milky white, stiletto-shaped mold is sitting on Amanda Parkes's desk. It's the beginnings of a project to restructure high heels to make the notoriously painful shoes more comfortable. "If men had to wear high heels, this would have been addressed 100 years ago," says Parkes, the design director for the product, which comes by way of Thesis, a new shoe company founded by a former SpaceX employee. Next to that is half of a bra, a model for a new shape of memory polymer insert. When finished, instead of using an underwire, the garment will respond to body heat, molding to a woman's shape. "It will be much more comfortable," says Parkes.
