I think too many photographers are trying to score with ultra stylized multi photo compostions, than having a strong striking well composed single image. I partly blame advertisers for wanting that, i partly blame the internet for new photographers wanting to mimic it instead of crafting own vision. I know I've succumb to it occassionally . But Guy Bourdin and many others of film era were uber strong in composition.
