India may scrap sourcing clause

India may scrap sourcing clause | Luxury & Fashion Markets in India | Scoop.it

" The Indian government may allow unfettered foreign investment in single-brand retail. It may scrap the 30 percent domestic sourcing clause, which could result in higher foreign direct investment inflows. So far global brands saw the sourcing clause as a stumbling block as many felt it was difficult to source high-end goods locally. Such a move would also free up brands and companies to open wholly owned stores in India."

Olivier Milo's insight:

Could this move be a game-changer for the Indian fashion market?

Domestic men’s brands explore the right formula

Domestic men’s brands explore the right formula | Luxury & Fashion Markets in India | Scoop.it

" Men’s wear is supposed to be the biggest and fastest growing apparel segment in India. The segment is flourishing with many global labels entering the country, creating stiff competition for Indian counterparts. However, experts feel that factors like understanding of local tastes that differ according to geographic location and competitive pricing give an edge to Indian brands."

Olivier Milo's insight:

Luxury and premium segment for foreign companies and upper-mid and mid-market for national brands? I believe the market frontiers are much more fluid than that. Furthermore, both foreign and national brands have a lot to learn from each other.

French Elements In Monisha Jaising's ICW 2014 Collection | Luxury & Fashion Markets in India | Scoop.it

" Monisha Jaising's collection for ICW 2014 is titled 'World Bride'. However, it borrows heavily from the stylistic elements of the French Rococo era. In 18th century France, the Rococo style was a rage in fashion and art. Monisha Jaising has blended the playful elements of this style with the elements of Indian bridal wear. The result is an amazing cross-cultural collection of clothes. "
