Will 3D Printing Change the World? | Off Book | PBS

"..3D Printing could have a game-changing impact on consumer culture, copyright and patent law, and even the very concept of scarcity on which our economy is based. From at-home repairs to new businesses, from medical to ecological developments, 3D Printing has an undeniably wide range of possibilities which could profoundly change our world."

Great examples of how 3D Printing can be used to benefit humanity. The creation of food and organs is already becoming a reality!

Brandon Smart's curator insight, March 20, 2013 6:48 AM

PBS presents this video with the help of numerous personalities throughout the technological world, such as writers for popular technology magazines such as Wired. This video presents more basic information on 3D Printing, but expands on this by giving examples of how it can benefit individual fields. Of particular interest is the segment presented by Joseph Flaherty on 3D Printing in Medicine. This is an excellent example of how in the future, this technology will be used to benefit humanity. This will be very useful in my paper. The people involved in this video conclude that 3D Printing will be massive in the near future, and I need to find more sources to corroborate their views.

A great introduction to 3D Printing.

Reverting to traditional handicrafts is one way to sabotage the throwaway society. In this article, we discuss another possibility: the design of modular consumer products, whose parts and components could be re-used for the design of other products.

Sworoba OyetKep's curator insight, March 16, 2013 7:02 AM

In this article Industrial designer Joshua Harris proposes his concept of using a 3D printer to print the clothes we wear,The author focuses intends to sharpen the idea of 3D printing and applies it to his concept of manufacturing clothes within the comfort of your home. In order for a piece of clothing to be produced, the design of the clothing must be downloaded into the machine followed by cartridges of specially designed threads. The main concept of creating a piece of clothing is still being worked upon with a high potential of productivity in future years. The main limitation of the article is that is did not take an indepth look at this theory however it goes a reasonable good of giving a breif scoop so we understand the concept. This article will not form the basis of my research; however it will be useful supplementary information for my research other influences 3D printing will portray.
