My boys love to play with their iPad. My oldest who is 4 ½ spends an average of about 45 minutes each day playing a variety of games. Some like Endless Alphabet are educational while others like Fruit Ninja, are not so much.

More about controling  children's use of technology. Todays children introduce themselves to  mobile technology quite early as a response to their immediate environment.

Number 13 in the  British Association for Early Childhood "Learning Together Series". Written, in the last 5 years, by Lynn Kennington who  was head of Gamesley Children’s Centre for 25 years. Under her it developed into a beacon of excellent practice in ICT in the early years.
