Not all Maddocks’ cases end in triumph. He acted for a Turkish refugee arrested for murder. His family deserted him, believing – because of their faith in the British CJS – that he must be guilty. Left isolated, with no interpreter, he fell apart and was admitted to Broadmoor. ‘I met him three weeks before he committed suicide’, says Maddocks.

Cop Who Planned to Kidnap, Rape & Eat Women, Walks Free After Judge Overturns Conviction

Cop Who Planned to Kidnap, Rape & Eat Women, Walks Free After Judge Overturns Conviction | Xpose Corrupt Courts | Scoop.it
NYPD 'cannibal cop' to walk free after judge overturns conviction   RT.comJuly 1, 2014 A former New York Police Department officer convicted of planning to kidnap and rape women before killing and eating them is set to go free after a federal judge overturned his conviction. According to Reuters, the so-called “Cannibal Cop” Gilberto Valle…

In his opinion, Judge Gardephe stated that the evidence used to originally convict Valle did not sufficiently prove that the former officer acted on what his attorneys said were sexual, cannibalistic fantasies involving women he never met, as well as his wife.

“The evidentiary record is such that it is more likely than not the case that all of Valle’s Internet communications about kidnapping are fantasy role-play,” the judge wrote.

Gardephe did uphold Valle’s conviction on a less serious charge, which alleged that he used the NYPD’s federal database to collect information on various women he intended to target. That conviction carried a sentence of up to one year in prison, but since Valle has been in jail since 2012, he can be set free as early as Tuesday.

Although prosecutors originally argued that Valle’s access of the NYPD database signaled that the former officer was taking steps to carry out his lurid plan – they also claimed he had searched the internet in order to learn about using chloroform to knock someone unconscious – defense attorneys said his involvement with a dark fetish website was simply fantasy. When Valle appealed his conviction, his lawyers claimed the jury could not differentiate between the details of his fantasy and real steps toward making it a reality.

“The judge’s well-reasoned decision validates what we have said since the beginning: There was no crime,” she said. “Gil Valle is innocent of any conspiracy. Gil is guilty of nothing more than having unconventional thoughts.”

No immunity for prosecutor accused of misconduct - ABA Journal

No immunity for prosecutor accused of misconduct - ABA Journal | Xpose Corrupt Courts | Scoop.it
Hollywood couldn’t come up with a better script than this. A gang member was convicted in 1986 of double murder by two prosecutors who are now accused of coercing witnesses into giving false testimony against him; and he was sentenced to death by a judge who had taken a bribe. One of those two prosecutors will have to answer for his alleged actions after the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week that he did not have immunity. According to a Monday article at Courthouse News, a divided three-judge panel ruled that former Illinois assistant state attorney Lawrence Wharrie could be sued civilly by Nathson Fields, the man who was convicted in 1986 for the murders. Prosecutors generally have absolute immunity from civil suits for their actions during the course of a criminal prosecution, and the panel held that Wharrie’s co-counsel, former assistant state attorney David…

‘Anonymous’ hackers jailed over attacks on PayPal in defense of WikiLeaks | Xpose Corrupt Courts | Scoop.it
Two British hackers affiliated with the group Anonymous, have been given prison terms for cyber-attacks, which reportedly cost PayPal $5.6 million. The sites were targeted in December 2010, after PayPal banned payments to WikiLeaks.
Ngozi Odochi (Godwell) Nwokocha's insight:

Christopher Weatherhead, who operated under the alias Nerdo, was given an 18-month sentence by Southwark Crown Court in London, after being found guilty of conspiring to impair the operation of computers between August 1, 2010, and January 22, 2011.

Weatherhead, who was described as the leader of the group, was convicted last month according to the 1977 UK Criminal Law Act.

He admitted participating in a “distribution denial of service” known as a DDoS on the financial services website. DDoS attacks cripple websites by flooding them with information until they crash.

Co-defendant Ashley Roads was jailed for seven months, while Peter Gibson, who was deemed to have played a smaller role, was given a six-month suspended sentence. Both admitted to the charges against them.

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Somerset | Judge explosion death 'a mystery'

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Somerset | Judge explosion death 'a mystery' | Xpose Corrupt Courts | Scoop.it

A judge who died in an explosion in his garden shed neither committed suicide nor was murdered, a coroner has ruled.

A second inquest on Andrew Chubb found the cause of death at his home near Chard, Somerset, was "unascertained".

The judge had asked his wife of 34 years, Jennifer, for a divorce hours before his death in 2001, the five-day inquest in Glastonbury has heard.

His wife told police that his mistress, Kerry Sparrow, was blackmailing the 58-year-old judge - a claim she denied.

Ngozi Odochi (Godwell) Nwokocha's insight:

"Evidence that might indicate that he had expressed thoughts of harming himself fall far below proof beyond doubt that is the standard request for the conclusion that he deliberately took his own life."

He also discounted any suggestion that Judge Chubb was killed by his wife or any other third party.

It would have been virtually impossible for her to "disable" him and set fire to the shed.

Mrs Chubb now lives in Australia and did not attend the hearing.

Journalists will face jail over spy leaks under new security laws

Journalists will face jail over spy leaks under new security laws | Xpose Corrupt Courts | Scoop.it
George Brandis's new spying laws will include measure to criminalise media reporting of Snowden-style leaks
Ngozi Odochi (Godwell) Nwokocha's insight:

Australian journalists could face prosecution and jail for reporting Snowden-style revelations about certain spy operations, in an “outrageous” expansion of the government’s national security powers, leading criminal lawyers have warned.

A bill presented to parliament on Wednesday by the attorney general, George Brandis, would expand the powers of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (Asio), including creation of a new offence punishable by five years in jail for “any person” who disclosed information relating to “special intelligence operations”.

The person would be liable for a 10-year term if the disclosure would “endanger the health or safety of any person or prejudice the effective conduct of a special intelligence operation”.

Special intelligence operations are a new type of operation in which intelligence officers receive immunity from liability or prosecution where they may need to engage in conduct that would be otherwise unlawful.

Two Former Utah Attorneys General Arrested For Corruption

Two Former Utah Attorneys General Arrested For Corruption | Xpose Corrupt Courts | Scoop.it

FSALT LAKE CITY, July 15 (Reuters) - FBI agents arrested two former Utah attorneys general at their homes on Tuesday and charged them pair with felonies stemming from a two-year investigation into claims of bribery and corruption, prosecutors said.

Republicans John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff are accused of establishing a pay-to-play culture in office, and of taking bribes to look the other way or offer protection when donors to their political campaigns ran into legal trouble.

"This has been a complex, nuanced, large investigation and there are multiple players in it," Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill said at a news conference. "We have filed what we think are appropriate charges. We could have filed more."

Both men deny any wrongdoing. They were booked into Salt Lake County jail and released by midday.

Swallow told reporters outside he would clear his name.

"I absolutely maintain my innocence. I look forward to being able to confront my accusers and to have my day in court," he said.
