Hollywood couldn’t come up with a better script than this. A gang member was convicted in 1986 of double murder by two prosecutors who are now accused of coercing witnesses into giving false testimony against him; and he was sentenced to death by a judge who had taken a bribe. One of those two prosecutors will have to answer for his alleged actions after the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week that he did not have immunity. According to a Monday article at Courthouse News, a divided three-judge panel ruled that former Illinois assistant state attorney Lawrence Wharrie could be sued civilly by Nathson Fields, the man who was convicted in 1986 for the murders. Prosecutors generally have absolute immunity from civil suits for their actions during the course of a criminal prosecution, and the panel held that Wharrie’s co-counsel, former assistant state attorney David…

A second inquest on Andrew Chubb found the cause of death at his home near Chard, Somerset, was "unascertained".
The judge had asked his wife of 34 years, Jennifer, for a divorce hours before his death in 2001, the five-day inquest in Glastonbury has heard.
His wife told police that his mistress, Kerry Sparrow, was blackmailing the 58-year-old judge - a claim she denied.
"Evidence that might indicate that he had expressed thoughts of harming himself fall far below proof beyond doubt that is the standard request for the conclusion that he deliberately took his own life."
He also discounted any suggestion that Judge Chubb was killed by his wife or any other third party.
It would have been virtually impossible for her to "disable" him and set fire to the shed.
Mrs Chubb now lives in Australia and did not attend the hearing.

London - The mystery surrounding the death of a judge killed in a fire in his garden shed may never be solved after a second inquest failed to find an answer.
Andrew Chubb, 58, died in an explosion and fire at his Somerset farmhouse in 2001, just hours after he had asked his wife of 34 years for a divorce. He had been having an affair.
After two inquests and a lengthy criminal inquiry, police said the case was closed.
"We feel that the tragic death of Judge Chubb has been examined on a number of occasions and that a line must now be drawn," Avon and Somerset Police said. "There are no plans to examine this case again in the future."
At the end of the second inquest on Friday, Coroner Sheriff Payne said the "means and cause of death remain unascertained", media reports said.
There was insufficient evidence to prove whether the death was an accident or suicide. However, the coroner was satisfied no third party was involved, the BBC said.
The first inquest recorded a verdict of accidental death in December 2001 after hearing that a spark from a lawnmower may have ignited petrol fumes in the outhouse.

This refers to Jocelyn R. Uy’s article, “Parents plant seeds of corruption–Tagle” (News, 6/11/14), which hits the nail on the head.
If we want to remove corruption from our society, let’s begin by living justice and honesty within our own families by telling the truth, avoiding lies, paying our household helpers on time and with a just wage, following traffic rules, living simply, thinking of the needs of others before our own, learning how to share, acknowledging our mistakes and asking for forgiveness.

Fire Death Investigation Re-Opened After 6 Years
New evidence has arisen that contradicts the original coroner’s verdict of accidental death. The judge’s body was never autopsied and he was cremated soon afterwards. The fire department ruled the fire “very suspicious” because there was no known ignition source normally present in the shed and Mrs. Chubb demolished the shed 24 hrs. after the death. She inherited £1 million from his estate and then moved to Australia.
