Arduino offers definitively some cool and cheap solution for electronic musicians . Here a  work in progress interface from the creative Julian aka Multiman aka Inspektor Gadjet : a small interface which lets use you Usb controllers ( nanokontrol, lpd8 etc.) with, for example an old Midi synthesizeur or Expander. see a video example here when was a prototype: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfI12RBaiPs&feature=youtu.be)

Here a convincing demonstration of a new interface , the fonof developped by Emmanuelle Gibello .It offer 48 sensors using the “Hall Effect” (magnetic) process, that detect the presence and distance of magnetic pieces.Using an usb connection , it can send informations (0-1 type or proportionnal values) to Music composition software.
