Mt. Everest has always fascinated all the people around the world. Uprising above the height of 8,848 m (29,028 ft.), it stands out to be the highest peak of the world. Mount Everest is also known by the Nepali name as Sagarmatha (Mother of the Universe) and Tibetan name as Chomolangma (Goddess Mother of the Snows). All the attempts on Everest were unsuccessful till 1953 when Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary made a successful attempt of Mt. Everest via the South Col.

Though, Everest can be climbed both from the southern side Nepal and northern side Tibet. Whilst the southern approach to the mountain via the Khumbu Valley is highly popular among the climbers. Today more than 1000 people made an attempt for the expedition to the Everest every year. One should be able and ready to encounter many seen and unseen obstacles during Everest expeditions. It includes high altitude, harsh weather conditions and even sheer exhaustion. One needs to encounter with the Khumbu Icefall, the Western Camp, over the Geneva Spur to the South Col, and up the Southeast Ridge while attempting the expedition to the Everest.

Baruntse Expedition

Baruntse is one of the beautiful 7,000m peaks in Nepal. Lying in a Khumbu region, it lies to the west of Makalu. The peak lies in a center surrounded with Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam.

Baruntse is one of the beautiful 7,000m peaks in Nepal. Lying in a Khumbu region, it lies to the west of Makalu. The peak lies in a center surrounded with Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam. It is also famous with a high rate of success of ascent on normal route. The first successful expedition to Baruntse was made by famous Hillary and Jim McFarlane.

The southern ridge overhanging the famous West pass is the most common route to the Baruntse peak which is opened by Hillary and Shipton in 1952. The Baruntse base camp is at an altitude of around 5400m and sits near the pristine lakes below Amphu Labtsa pass. The expedition follows the route starting from Lukla, climbing Mera peak, 6654m and to the Baruntse base camp. The route is generally a straightforward snow and ice climb and not technically demanding. The expedition to Baruntse is one of the great opportunities to explore the Everest region.

It was first ascended in 1956 as an alternative route towards the summit of Everest by Swiss climbers Ernest Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger. The same Swiss party made the second ascent of Everest in 1956 from a camp just below the South Col. Mount Lhotse lies just to the south of Everest, and is also known as “South peak”.

Lhotse is connected with South Col to Mount Everest. Lhotse Shar, which is immediately east of the main summit, and Nuptse, a high peak on the mountain’s west ridge. Lhotse is formed up by the Lhotse East or middle, Lhotse Shar and Lhotse. Lhotse expedition through the south face is incredibly steep, and few climbers have attempted it. It surpasses the base camp located beside the Khumbu Glacier. Khumbu Icefall is considered to be the most dangerous section during the climb.

Dhaulagiri (8167m) is the seventh highest mountain in the world. The magnificent peak of Dhaulagiri lies in north central Nepal bordering Nepal and Tibet. The peak gets its name from the Sanskrit word “Dhavala” which means ‘white’ and ‘giri’ which means mountain. Dhaulagiri came in an existence among the world in 1949 by the aerial survey made by Swiss group. And through the Northeast ridge, the peak was first climbed by K. Diemberger, P. Diener, M. Dorji, E. Forrer, A. Schelbert & N. Dorji in 1960. From then this route has been one of the most adopted route. Although, six different routes have been established with variations till date.

The “White Mountain” is one of the most difficult mountains for expedition in the world. This White Mountain is also considered as an interesting eight thousands peak. Dhaulagiri along with Annapurna formed the deepest George of the Kaligandaki in the world. Dhaulagiri Expedition includes the twisting ridges, glaciers, and ice falls through the route.

Amadablam is popularly known as the ‘Matterhorn of the Himalaya’. It is named after the glacier on its southwest face. The glacier looks like a jewel box hanging on the neck of the mountain, hence the name Amadablam, literally meaning ‘The Mother’s Jewel Box’. Amadablam lies in the north eastern region of Nepal in a beautiful Khumbu glacier.

Edmund Hillary scaled the mountain for the first time. The route through the South-Western Ridge is the standard route to Amadablam. As though, the experienced mountaineer will find the South East Ridge, at its easiest, a real challenge. Amadablam is one of the most beautiful peaks to be climbed. The expedition to the peak is moderate with good steep mixed climbing. A proficient skills in the use of crampons and have previous experience of climbing AD routes in the Alps or equivalent Scottish Grade 2/3 is required for the expedition to Amadablam. 3 camps need to set up in which the climb ascends moderately to challenging level with highly technical throughout camp2 and camp 3 to the summit.

It is also considered as “The Five Treasures of Snow”. It comprises of four summits which are above 8,450m. This comprises the Main Summit, Middle Summit, South Summit & Yalung Kang or West Summit, each one measuring over eight thousand meters. The west summit, Yalung Kang, 8420m is mistaken and classified as a separate peak. Kanchenjunga was first climbed by team of British expedition on May 25, 1955 by Joe Brown and George Band. The South Summit is by far the most difficult face route while the North Face can be considered as the safest. The expedition to Kanchanjunga follows the Kanchanjunga Base camp lying in the meadows of Panorama at 5,180 m thorough the south face route.
