"If Ex-Im goes away, companies like us are going to be in trouble" one of the firm's executives says. "Employees will lose their jobs."
A large share of this firm's revenue comes from exports. In order to even bid on contracts to sell the fire trucks and other equipment, many nations require contractors to secure financing from their home country's official ExIm bank. Every major trading nation has one... until now. Now the U.S. just killed its ExIm bank and companies like this one, and many of its suppliers, will have to cut jobs drastically and hope they don't go bankrupt. WHERE IS THE LOGIC?? Someone please tell me.

How large is Africa compared to the United States, or Western Europe? Most inhabitants of the latter places might guess it is a little larger, but few would have any idea of the scale of the difference. This has led German graphics designer Kai Krause to produce this map to shake people's perceptions a little.
I think even if you are a well traveled global citizen, your mind will still be blown by this way of looking at Africa. I admit my mind is still reeling, even though I could have sworn I had a good sense of the relative sizes of countries around the world... See that dark brown blob? Wow, the US, really?? And how do you like the UK being the size of Madagascar?!!
See how this company would shrink by 70% if the Export Import bank is closed by the government (i.e. not reauthorized). Now imagine this at the scale of the US... We are already woefully behind other countries in exports and engaging in global trade, this would be the last straw. AND we'd be the only country that does not have this kind of institution so US companies would be penalized on two fronts.
Please see below a few ways you can help (with very little effort and no cost)
Think about the last time you got frustrated with something or someone? Most likely something didn’t turn out the way you would have liked it to or someone didn’t say or do what you wanted them to.
Most frustration arises because of the gap between an expectation and whether or not it is met. But for someone to meet an expectation you have, they need to first know about it, and, perhaps even more importantly, you have to know about it yourself! And that’s the heart of the problem.

This is the 3rd in a series of 3 podcasts Doris Nagel, of Blue Sky Consulting Services has hosted. It is very helpful to hear these clear explanations of a topic that can be challenging and yet is so important to global commerce.
If the U.S. pulls out of Trans-Pacific Partnership, forget about having any say in Asia.
The USA Today editorial board added their voices to the chorus of U.S. trade supporters today, writing that, “Throughout the world, there are 612 bilateral or regional trade pacts, a number that has doubled over the past decade and continues to grow. Just this week, for instance, Australia and China came to terms on what is likely to be No. 613. But one country has been left behind. The United States is a party to just 14, linking it to only 20 nations, most of them small. And yet it is in the USA — a country whose economy has grown faster than most in the developed world in recent years — where some of the most vociferous anti-trade calls are being heeded. Should the deal be derailed at some point, America's standing in the world would take a major hit. Presidents of both parties have spent the past several decades preaching the benefits of free markets and free trade. Now, with China rising and threatening to pull more and more Asian countries into its orbit, the Democrats want America to declare defeat and go home.”
Approximately 52 percent of container ships that leave Asia for the East Coast today opt to traverse the arguably less secure Suez Canal, which cuts through Egypt to connect the Mediterranean and Red Seas.
Global Commerce is poised to change dramatically. Will you be prepared?
Many employees travel internationally without knowing that country's work visa laws. Here's why you NEED to know the rules.
Wow, thanks Doris Nagel, of Blue Sky Consulting, for calling our attention to this. You're right, just because someone has never had a problem so far doesn't mean it couldn't happen. And you have to wonder how "work" is defined, in each country...
