Managing Libraries with Google Apps Script

Managing Libraries with Google Apps Script | desktop liberation | Scoop.it

Google Apps Script Library Management

At last we can now create a library of useful stuff in GAS and access it (or share it) from other sheets. Those of you that have seen this blog or follow the parent web site, may have seen some of the Google Apps Script from Excel migration projects and the associated VBA emulation libraries.

Using this new library management capability in GAS, I can now make all this code available across future projects and to anyone else who want to use it just by referencing the projects key

Using Google Apps ScriptDB and the ContentService as an REST server

Using Google Apps ScriptDB and the ContentService as an REST server | desktop liberation | Scoop.it

What no server?
That's right - you can serve up data from your Google Apps Script directly. In my post the other day, I showed how to use the Google Apps ScriptDB as a place to store the Rest-Excel library. Now ideally, you'd want to get that out again by making a simple API call - but we dont have a server. With the new Google Apps Script HtmlService , you dont need one.

Google Apps Developer Blog

Google Apps Developer Blog | desktop liberation | Scoop.it

Great new stuff in GAS...

- HtmlService can help you create beautiful interfaces using Apps Script. HtmlService allows you to create web apps using HTML, client-side JavaScript, and CSS. You can also use jQuery to build web apps.

-We also launched a better way to store your application's data, ScriptDb . Every script now has an embedded JSON database. You no longer have to rely on a spreadsheet to store the data.

-You can now create scripts from script.google.com or from Google Drive. Plus, your projects are now stored in Google Drive, and you can share them just like a Google document or spreadsheet.

-There are also now more options for deploying your web app. Your apps can now, with authorization, run as the user behind the keyboard, not just the script owner.
