I've been looking at the Mozilla Open Badges initiative lately, as a way to improve engagement with a particular site or Blog. My idea is that you could assign a set of earnable badges to a particular page of a site, perhaps different ones on different pages, and present the opportunity to earn one by answering a few questions - using the Open badges infrastructure to store the badges earned. Here's the beginnings of a page specific badge earning widget with quiz data served up by google apps script.

Given a specific color, it will find - in a given color scheme such as dulux paint colors, the nearest 5 colors plus various palettes using different color models.

Thought I'd try out sidebar in Google Docs by replicating the MS Word Navigation Pane/Document Map. Didn't get jump navigation to work but reckon with a bit of jQuery I could get it to change document structure. Useful to find the current limitations. Delete the scoop?

Yesterday I showed how to do some data wrangling in VBA and Google Apps Script that Tony Hirst on his oUseful blog had done using scraperwiki, Open refine plus various APIs. Today he posted a quick analysis using gephi and scraperwiki on which candidates supported each other in a local Election. Here's how to do the same thing using VBA and D3.js. Delete the scoop?

I just saw a great post by Tony Hirst on his oUseful blog where he nicely laid out how to use Open refine plus various APIs to research which candidates were standing for election in the wards in which they live. This kind of mashup of various tools is something I cannot resist playing around with, so I 'borrowed' his scraper wiki data to show how to do the same thing in one shot in Excel. I gave myself a time limit of 2 hours to see how much I could get done, including writing it up.
