The future of the Middle East looks like a race between the mullahs and the iPad—and despite recent setbacks, social networks are rewiring our brains to topple traditional barriers, says Deepak Chopra, author of God: A Story of Revelation.

Have you ever tried to move an arm or a leg just by thinking, not with the mechanics of movement, but simply thoughts??? I failed.

An awesome collection of references. Chalmers is one of the founders of our Science of Consciousness conference held in Tucson every other year since 1994, in April. Unfortunately, this year they moved the venue from downtown Tucson to an upscale resort and increased the registration fee so I won't attend (formally). This will make it better for those coming from outside Tucson where the increase in registration fee is a small increment to the total cost. Actually, we need to be weaned from large conferences which have long been noted as the least effective means for sharing knowledge. F2F gatherings should have few information presentations and be more a place for facilitated interaction on information accessed online prior to the F2F gathering.

Very impressive project PROPOSAL. How much does this depend on funding? I sense many proposals by different groups for similar projects. Might there be too much competition? Not that we shouldn't have many varieties to enhance the emergence, but it can also stretch thin threshold support. What is the projected timeline for beta versions to appear?

My concern is that these great and imaginative efforts really manifest; thus my critiques.
I am reading John Seely Brown's THE SOCIAL LIFE OF INFORMATION (2000). He cautions about the over dependence on information structure (alone) to create miracles. He documents where real human-human contact is needed that requires more than facilitating information structures. I wonder if the problems he cited over a decade ago have been corrected. The projects in the enlightened STRUCTURE web appear to provide avenues for what Brown deems essential - but I have concerns whether just providing the tools will be sufficient. IMHO all 6 T's in Technology6 need attending: Tools, Techniques, Tasks, Training, Teams, Time. Delete the scoop?
