Lawyers Don't Need Meta Descriptions On Every Page

Lawyers Don't Need Meta Descriptions On Every Page | Everything Marketing You Can Think Of | Scoop.it
This is a meta description and you don't have to use one on every page of your site.
Jeffrey Lapin's insight:

*Why Lawyers Don’t Need a Meta Description on Every page*

Good post by Chris Dreyer of Attorney Rankings about meta descriptions and why it is not necessary for lawyers to have one on every page. Not having a meta description will not hurt your search engine rankings as Google will add one for you.

I would agree that not every page needs to have a meta description and that lawyers should have one for their important pages (Home page; About; Lawyer Profiles).

I would add that you should Google your site frequently or use Google's Structured Data Testing Tool especially for those pages in which you have not added a meta description. The reason is that the snippet added by Google may not be want you want. As an example, I had not added a meta description on a new “About Us” page. The snippet, which was taken from partial sentences on the page, indicated that my office would not take a case to trial, which was the exact opposite of what the page itself said.

Jeffrey Lapin's insight:

10 Pieces of Social Media Advice You Should Ignore

There is a lot of social media advice out there, but, a lot of it is inaccurate or out-of-date. Some of the advice Laura Sheptoski (via Weidert Group) suggests you not follow:

1. "Don't get too hung up on social media; it's just a fad."
2. "It's all about the 'Big 3' social networks."
3. "If you're not getting likes, you're not doing it right."
4. "If you don't have a lot of followers, you're not doing it right."
5. "If you're only putting X hours into it, you're not doing it right."
6. "Don't put too much time into planning your social media posts ahead of time; instead, just post when something seems relevant."
7. "Social media shouldn't be too high on your priority list. Let the intern handle it for you."
8. "You should avoid using an automation service so your company doesn't appear to be run by robots."
9. "Keep it strictly professional. Don't let any personality shine through."
10. "Social media really only has a place for big B2C corporations."

Eye Tracking in 2014: How Users View and Interact with Today's Google SERPs

Eye Tracking in 2014: How Users View and Interact with Today's Google SERPs | Everything Marketing You Can Think Of | Scoop.it
With Google's SERPs regularly testing new features, the team at Mediative decided it was time to figure out how the "Golden Triangle" has changed over the years. Check out how users are looking at and interacting with today's SERPs in the results of their study.
Jeffrey Lapin's insight:

Eye Tracking in 2014: How Users View and Interact with Today's Google SERPs

Post by Rebecca Maynes via Moz

Post discusses Mediative's research, "The Evolution of Google's Search Engine Results Pages and Their Effects on User Behaviour."Some of the conclusions of the research include:

"[J]ust as Google's SERP [Search Engine Results Page] has evolved over the past decade, so too has the way in which search engine users scan the page before making a click. ... Searchers on Google now scan far more vertically than several years ago. ... One of the biggest changes from SERPS 9 years ago to today is that Google is now trying to keep people on the result page for as long as they can."

She recommends, based on this research, that businesses keep four things in mind:

1. The basic fundamentals of SEO are as important as ever;
2. Consider using schema mark-up wherever possible;
3. Know the intent of your users;
4. A combination of SEO and paid search can maximize your visibility in SERP areas that have the biggest impact on both branding and traffic.
