Eye Tracking in 2014: How Users View and Interact with Today's Google SERPs | Everything Marketing You Can Think Of | Scoop.it
With Google's SERPs regularly testing new features, the team at Mediative decided it was time to figure out how the "Golden Triangle" has changed over the years. Check out how users are looking at and interacting with today's SERPs in the results of their study.
Jeffrey Lapin's insight:

Eye Tracking in 2014: How Users View and Interact with Today's Google SERPs

Post by Rebecca Maynes via Moz

Post discusses Mediative's research, "The Evolution of Google's Search Engine Results Pages and Their Effects on User Behaviour."Some of the conclusions of the research include:

"[J]ust as Google's SERP [Search Engine Results Page] has evolved over the past decade, so too has the way in which search engine users scan the page before making a click. ... Searchers on Google now scan far more vertically than several years ago. ... One of the biggest changes from SERPS 9 years ago to today is that Google is now trying to keep people on the result page for as long as they can."

She recommends, based on this research, that businesses keep four things in mind:

1. The basic fundamentals of SEO are as important as ever;
2. Consider using schema mark-up wherever possible;
3. Know the intent of your users;
4. A combination of SEO and paid search can maximize your visibility in SERP areas that have the biggest impact on both branding and traffic.
