Interesting post by Rand Fishkin (via MOZ) about how SEO professionals should care more about correlation than causation. He argues that successful marketers look at the big picture of what Google is looking for, which is, popularity, relevance, trust and a great overall experience for visitors, rather than individual ranking signals. By doing what correlates with a higher rankings rather than focusing on specific ranking signals, with could change based on Google numerous algorithmic changes, marketers should win in the long run.
