The implementation of an Enterprise Geographical Information System to support Cadastre and Expropriation activities.

The implementation of an Enterprise Geographical Information System to support Cadastre and Expropriation activities. | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it

Abstract

The processes of mobilization of land for infrastructures of public and private domain are developed according to proper legal frameworks and systematically confronted with the impoverished national situation as regards the cadastral identification and regularization, which leads to big inefficiencies, sometimes with very negative impact to the overall effectiveness.

This project report describes Ferbritas Cadastre Information System (FBSIC) project and tools, which in conjunction with other applications, allow managing the entire life-cycle of Land Acquisition and Cadastre, including support to field activities with the integration of information collected in the field, the development of multi-criteria analysis information, monitoring all information in the exploration stage, and the automated generation of outputs. The benefits are evident at the level of operational efficiency, including tools that enable process integration and standardization of procedures, facilitate analysis and quality control and maximize performance in the acquisition, maintenance and management of registration information and expropriation (expropriation projects). Therefore, the implemented system achieves levels of robustness, comprehensiveness, openness, scalability and reliability suitable for a structural platform.

The resultant solution, FBSIC, is a fit-for-purpose cadastre information system rooted in the field of railway infrastructures.

FBSIC integrating nature of allows: to accomplish present needs and scale to meet future services; to collect, maintain, manage and share all information in one common platform, and transform it into knowledge; to relate with other platforms; to increase accuracy and productivity of business processes related with land property management.

Actively Teaching Active Learning

Actively Teaching Active Learning | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
When you think about education, it’s easy to feel jaded. After all, waves of education reform have swept over American schools and colleges for decades, and tangible improvements—let alone a sea change—don’t exactly spring to mind.

But new hope has arisen in recent years, and with good reason, because for the first time teaching practices are being aligned with how the mind actually works. Studies are showing that there are certain things that teachers can do to make substantial improvements in student learning.

Sentinel 2B launch: The next important milestone in Copernicus program

Sentinel 2B launch: The next important milestone in Copernicus program | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
Sentinel-2B, Europe’s next Copernicus satellite is being readied by engineers from Airbus for a 7 March 2017 lift-off from Kourou, French Guiana. Sentinel-2B will be the fifth satellite of Europe’s environmental monitoring program Copernicus to be launched. Copernicus is an operational program led by the European Commission (EC) in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). The Copernicus Sentinels supply remote sensing data of the Earth to deliver key operational services related to environment and security.

“Sentinel-2B is the next important milestone in Europe’s Copernicus program for which Airbus is a key contributor. With two highly sophisticated satellites the Sentinel-2 mission will reach its full capability,” said Nicolas Chamussy, Head of Space Systems at Airbus, “and the wide ranging user community will get more “colourful” data in near real-time.”

Google’s Geospatial Evolution is Open - Directions Magazine

Much has been prognosticated about the earth-shattering consequences of deprecating Google Earth Enterprise back in March of 2015. Uncertainty of the route Google was taking may have sent some companies scrambling to shift their geospatial technology stack, while others chose to wait it out, taking solace in Google’s official support through March 2017. Now, the situation looks a lot more clear. The future of Google Earth Enterprise is open.

The announcement Jan. 30, 2017 marks the beginning of a new milestone for GEE. The capabilities of GEE Server, Fusion and Portable will be open sourced under the Apache 2.0 license by the end of March this year and available to the global community of open source developers on Github.com. While the technical details of this seismic event are being wrought out, there is some certainty regarding the potential of a more open Google geospatial platform.

Generalising about Africa is dangerous. With 47 countries (or 53 if you use the UN list and include island nations such as Cape Verde, Madagascar and the Comoros), it is hugely diverse. The state of economic development, social welfare, environmental quality, population growth and political development varies greatly across the continent. Yet there are many problems which are common, even if the incidence is variable. Environmental sustainability is just one of them.

Communicating through Maps: Exploring the complexities and challenges of GIS mapping, by Diana S. Sinton

Communicating through Maps: Exploring the complexities and challenges of GIS mapping, by Diana S. Sinton | Everything is related to everything else | Scoop.it
Readers of this magazine are unlikely to need convincing about the inherent utility of maps. As representations of information, maps enable the analysis of spatial distributions and patterns and are a medium for communication both for and by the mapmaker. In fact, a map is a common metaphor for the arrangement of any type of information because being able to visualize spatial relationships among the data, whether words, numbers, shapes, images, objects, or concepts, helps us interpret and extract meaning.

GIS was designed for mapping geographic space, though a printed map is only one of many GIS products. I remind my students to postpone printing of their layout designs as long as possible, knowing that once hard copy is produced, the connection with the life-giving database is severed. In fields with a long history of, and expectation for, printed maps, such as the geological sciences, there are calls for greater acceptance of data sharing in alternative formats, given the time commitment involved to design, produce and distribute paper products. With improvements in the interoperability of applications and the increased emphasis on web mapping, we can expect fewer projects to yield printed maps in the future.
