The Myth of Social Media Tactics vs the Reality of Social Business Strategies

The Myth of Social Media Tactics vs the Reality of Social Business Strategies | Everything from Social Media to F1 to Photography to Anything Interesting | Scoop.it

This piece was written by Mark Fidelman for Forbes, great information and insights to help you rethink what you're doing with your social business strategy.

Excerpt:

**Neither Rome nor a Social Business was Built in a Day

Where does your organization fit in?

**Do you have a few social media heroes testing the social business waters?

Three “facts” about social business are accepted without question by most people.

**any business with a Facebook page or Twitter account is considered “social”

**hiring a social media person constitutes a social “presence”

**implementing an intranet transforms the organization into a “collaborative” enterprise.

The Assessment

**What sense does it make to dive into social media without first recognizing where you are today?

Below is a chart that we’ve compiled based on over 80 recent discussions with executives from 60 organizations around the globe.

**this is very useful

Without The Right Message, Twitter Is No Better For Your Brand Than A Fax Machine

Without The Right Message, Twitter Is No Better For Your Brand Than A Fax Machine | Everything from Social Media to F1 to Photography to Anything Interesting | Scoop.it

A great lesson in humility... I think this article touches the major problem of social media, too much blah blah and personal promotion and not enough real useful information for all. It's to each of us to finding the right ratio between the two... I have an idea about that, and you? [note mg]

Why brands have this endless fascination with social media is one of the more fascinating phenomena in business today--especially since many are missing the one key ingredient that, if ignored, will turn their most choreographed efforts into social media hell.

When it comes to branding and the ever-changing social media phenomenon, you’re not a mushroom. In other words, you shouldn’t be kept in the dark and fed a pile of...well, you get the idea.

Every once in while, a certain business mania surfaces. As you saw in the video above, history is filled with these blips: The telephone. Radio. TV. The fax machine. The Internet. And now social media. Within social media, it splinters further--it seems like there’s always a shiny new network. Before Pinterest, there was Google Plus. Before Google Plus, well, you know the drill. And on and on.

How Do You Find The Time For Social Media? - Forbes

How Do You Find The Time For Social Media? - Forbes | Everything from Social Media to F1 to Photography to Anything Interesting | Scoop.it

How do you find the time for social media? This is the question I get asked probably more than any other.

I have four lovely children, a demanding job, a wife with a successful career and more. So how do I find the time to tweet, blog, share, and comment?

The answer is simple: I make the time for social media because I think it’s important.

I believe that business people in general, and marketers especially, have an obligation to do more than just consume content or share other people’s content, but to become a content creator and to contribute to your work and your life.

I think its fair to stay that at the beginning of your social media journey it can be very time consuming getting to grips with the different platforms and building up followers and looking for decent content to share. You also have to develop your style. That said, with the right tools and mindset your time investment lessens substantially - unless you get hooked!
Martin Gysler's comment, April 19, 2013 7:56 AM
Indeed, at the beginning the most things are difficult and need more time. After it's rather the mind set who dictate the invested time in social media, it's right, I agree with you Gemma. But in my sens the invested time is worth it because it create many very interesting contacts across the world.

How to Create and Grow Your Influence on a Global Social Web | Jeffbullas's Blog | Everything from Social Media to F1 to Photography to Anything Interesting | Scoop.it
We are living in a world where influence is migrating from offline to online.

The ability to influence is also moving from local to global. Its reach is also transitioning to mobile devices.

Reputation and influence can now be gained faster and reach further than in any other time in history.

One definition of Influence is “the capacity to have an effect on the character, development or behavior of someone or something”

To be truly successful you must have the ability and power to influence.

How Social Login Enhances Websites

How Social Login Enhances Websites | Everything from Social Media to F1 to Photography to Anything Interesting | Scoop.it

Do you manage a site that encourages people to create user accounts?

Are you looking for an easy way to tap the power of Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to quickly create user identities?

If so, keep reading for my review of a social service that we used to quickly build up members of our Networking Clubs.

Why Social Login?

Once people login to their favorite social network, they generally don’t log out. Most people have a social account with one of the major social networks. This means their photograph and contact details are already registered elsewhere...
