Why Great Leaders Get Angry--and Show It

Why Great Leaders Get Angry--and Show It | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
You can still get even...but you can also get mad.

Via donhornsby
Joe Boutte's insight:

As humans, we all get angry, but as leaders, we need to move from anger to action and use that energy to create the outcomes we seek.  The difference between being an angry person and a leader that achieves results is that we don't let anger linger too long because it can be a detriment to a team or organization's culture and productivity.

Interesting article. However, I think that the way the article ends provides sage advice: "But there's still one major problem with getting mad. When you're angry, it's easy to do and say things you later regret. That's why the key to harnessing anger is to find a way to stay smart and in control while you're angry."

Emeric Nectoux's curator insight, May 18, 2014 10:52 AM

Leading is connecting to people relationship and feelings. Avoiding a part of these feelings is just wrong. One sentence that always make me laugh is the famous: "This is not personal, only business" what a stupid one's!

Getting angry is , in some cases, is fully justified and sometimes just. Avoiding it will just hurt you and can also trigger wrong behavior of the one who deserved your anger.

Once this said, the main issue with anger is how to keep control of it and not let it control you!

John Michel's curator insight, April 5, 2014 7:50 AM

Your words are among your greatest tools. They're a window into your vision, your values and your abilities. So, whether you're running a giant organization or just trying to herd a group toward a certain outcome, there are messages you need to communicate constantly in order to lead effectively.

Mike Brooks's comment, April 8, 2014 2:34 AM
The best leaders I've had have said these same phrases to me many times. Over half of these phrases lay the foundation for what author Simon Sinek calls the "Circle of Safety." When the circle is large, those inside the circle have more room to do great things for the organization. As leaders, we need to work continuously towards making that circle bigger.
