John Michel's curator insight, April 5, 7:50 AM

Your words are among your greatest tools. They're a window into your vision, your values and your abilities. So, whether you're running a giant organization or just trying to herd a group toward a certain outcome, there are messages you need to communicate constantly in order to lead effectively.

Mike Brooks's comment, April 8, 2:34 AM
The best leaders I've had have said these same phrases to me many times. Over half of these phrases lay the foundation for what author Simon Sinek calls the "Circle of Safety." When the circle is large, those inside the circle have more room to do great things for the organization. As leaders, we need to work continuously towards making that circle bigger.

Why Good Managers Are So Rare

Why Good Managers Are So Rare | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it

Gallup has found that one of the most important decisions companies make is simply whom they name manager. Yet our analysis suggests that they usually get it wrong. In fact, Gallup finds that companies fail to choose the candidate with the right talent for the job 82% of the time.

Bad managers cost businesses billions of dollars each year, and having too many of them can bring down a company. The only defense against this massive problem is a good offense, because when companies get these decisions wrong, nothing fixes it. Businesses that get it right, however, and hire managers based on talent will thrive and gain a significant competitive advantage.

donhornsby's curator insight, March 16, 9:12 AM

(From the article):Very few people are able to pull off all five of the requirements of good management. Most managers end up with team members who are at best indifferent toward their work — or are at worst hell-bent on spreading their negativity to colleagues and customers. However, when companies can increase their number of talented managers and double the rate of engaged employees, they achieve, on average, 147% higher earnings per share than their competition.

Kimberley Richardson's curator insight, March 17, 1:59 PM

Great managers begin with great people.  When they bring out the best in themselves, they bring out the best in others. ~quote #genuineleaders #leadership

Self-leadership: How good are you in leading yourself? | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
When most people think of leaders, they think of famous people like Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, or (when talking about toxic leaders), Adolf Hitler. But why not think about ourselves in term of a leader?

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, February 27, 7:06 PM

We probably do not think of this concept, but leading one's self is important in living.  I think this is critical to classroom teachers who often do not have much contact with other adults for the necessary leadership. It is more the way schooling is than by choice.

Kimberley Richardson's curator insight, February 28, 8:18 AM

"Your ability to lead yourself will determine how well you lead and inspire others." K. Richardson
