The Difference Between a Leader and a Boss

The Difference Between a Leader and a Boss | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
While the two may seem similar, they're actually opposites.
Joe Boutte's insight:
Leaders establish a vision, create influence, and ensure positive outcomes.  Bosses are leaders when they do what leaders do.

"A leader understands that the people he or she works with are essential to an organization’s success, treating them as equals and providing them with helpful direction. Bosses, on the other hand, give out orders and view employees as disposable inferiors."

How to be a rebel, but not a troublemaker, at work

How to be a rebel, but not a troublemaker, at work | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
Rebels create possibilities, energizing their co-workers, while troublemakers are self-centered complainers, alienating others
Joe Boutte's insight:
Carmen Medina, author of Rebels @ Work",  has transformed any negative meanings to the word or concept of "rebels" into positive impacts and influence.  I especially like that the focus of rebels is always bigger than themselves and focused on mission and others and not the individual.  A true rebel identifies problems, challenges, and opportunities and the accompanying solutions.  Being a rebel means becoming a problem-solver, leader, and change agent.  In short, rebels are the positive disruptors that challenge old or groupthink while influencing others to think, do, and act in more efficient ways to advance the productivity and positive outcomes for a team, group, or entire organization.  Who are the rebels in your organization and what are examples of their rebelization?

Each generation feels that their time is full of innovation.  I'm excited about 2017 because of the daily breakthroughs and ideas for improving health, finance, learning, business, and almost every aspect life.  Unfortunately, our scientific breakthroughs seem to outpace our political and social breakthroughs.  Leadership requires us to constantly seek solutions and ways to influence positive change in the world.  I'm encouraged by the constant breakthroughs in science and fervently hope for progress in government, society, and international relations through persistent leaders solving the world's greatest challenges.
