It always amazes me to see how often aquaponics is used in education, volunteering and community projects around the globe.  Almost every other project seems to be dedicated to a cause to provide something positive to others.  This is why we love aquaponics!

Everyday leadership comes from all parts of society, but it's especially refreshing when the youth take the lead for the problems and challenges they encounter.  In every sector of society, when  the members take control of their destiny, solutions and better results are achieved.   Congratulations to this group of leaders in countering bullying and other issues.

The Art of Giving and Receiving Advice - HBR | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
Seeking and giving advice are central to effective leadership and decision making. Yet managers seldom view them as practical skills they can learn and improve. Rebels at Work

Rebels at Work | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
Empowering rebels at work to create change.
Joe Boutte's insight:

I met Carmen several years ago in a "sabbatical" on how to use wikis and all the new social media tools in government.  She is the consumate everyday leader, authentic, succinct, humorous, intelligent, and brimming with ideas.  In her "Rebels at Work: A Handbook for Leading Change from Within", we have a blueprint for leadership at any level.

The statement on the webpage says it all:

"Rebels at Work is a movement empowering people to create change at work and find more meaning in work. This hub is a place to share personal experiences, ideas and insights to help one another succeed as constructive disruptors. The world needs us more now than ever."

donhornsby's curator insight, January 14, 2:51 PM

Rehabilitating your Troublemakers. Corporate leaders may worry that Rebels at Work will create gangs of rebellious employees (cue Les Miserables). But the reality is rebels are already inside your corporate gates and increasingly unhappy. Many of them have the potential to become positive forces for your organization — to become good rebels. For that to happen, however, employees need different skills and managers need more effective ways of managing individuals who think differently.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, January 14, 8:08 PM

But rebelling is not just about rebelling. It is about changing the way things are done and the paradigm within which it is done. Retaining neo-colonial and patriarchal ways does not change anything.

Recognizing and appreciating those who dedicate themselves to "serve and protect" is one aspect of leadership, but it is also part of a national discussion to fix the troubling issues that have surfaced in the last few months.  America is better than the constant negative news cycles and our law enforcement leaders must take back their trusted leadership positions in the community.

The most intelligent groups aren’t just a bunch of smart people

The most intelligent groups aren’t just a bunch of smart people | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
“We found that there is indeed a single statistical factor for group intelligence that predicts how well the group will perform on a wide variety of tasks. We called this factor “collective intelligence,” and it is only moderately correlated with the average individual intelligence of people in the group. In other words, having a bunch of smart people in the group doesn’t necessarily lead to a smart group. Instead, we found three other factors that predict collective intelligence.”

7 (Even More) Ways to Become a Better Leader

7 (Even More) Ways to Become a Better Leader | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
Good leadership is about making wise decisions and letting people know you are human.
Joe Boutte's insight:

A few reminders of everyday leadership.  My favorite is number 7:  Be True to Yourself.  Anyone can pretend to be in charge, stomp around and chew out low performing employees. That's not too difficult. Faking authority and knowledge is a good way to convince people you should not be leading them. Be yourself. Admit failures. Show them you are human. Your employees will be ready to follow.

Authentic!

The power of being a follower - Deseret News

The power of being a follower - Deseret News | Everyday Leadership | Scoop.it
Perhaps it is surprising that being a leader is not the main thing that Google seeks when hiring.
Joe Boutte's insight:

Being a leader sometimes means knowing when to follow other leaders or work more collaboratively.  If everyone is a general, there  may not be an Army to lead.  Consider the wisdom of knowing when your influence is best exerted through being a team member to get the job done. Being a follower is not a bad thing, it should be situation dependent and non-permanent.  Being a good follower is often a special characteristic of a good leader.
