Interoute launches first dedicated NetApp cloud storage solution in its pan European Cloud

Interoute launches first dedicated NetApp cloud storage solution in its pan European Cloud | Interoute - Europe's largest cloud services platform | Scoop.it
Chris Green's insight:

Interoute offers rapid integration and instant scaling of NetApp storage through its Virtual Data Centre

Interoute Communications Ltd, owner operator of Europe’s largest cloud services platform has extended Interoute Scalable Storage (ISS) to include dedicated NetApp Storage Virtual Machines (SVM) on demand. By integrating the NetApp Storage Virtual Machines (SVM) into Interoute Virtual Data Centre (VDC) customers can securelyextend their storage capability into Europe’s largest and most secure elastic cloud. The ISS Dedicated NetApp SVM service allows customers to directly connect in over 150 locations throughout Europe, using Interoute’s unified connectivity MPLS service. This brings enterprises more flexibility to manage their data and application storage needs within a secure yet elastic cloud environment complete with utility billing, instant access and flexible locations to ensure compliance with European data regulations.

A key benefit of ISS is that data ownership and control stays with the customer. The ability to choose which city data is stored in, when it gets moved and when it doesn’t is a founding principle of Interoute Virtual Data Centre.

The dedicated NetApp SVMs are built into Interoute’s five Virtual Data Centre Zones, in Amsterdam, Berlin, Geneva, London and Paris, integrated into the heart of Interoute’s pan European Cloud platform and connected by its high capacity fibre optic network. Customers can select any or all of these data centres for their NetApp dedicated storage location, giving them the visibility and confidence they need to ensure compliance with European data privacy laws.

ISS is available from the Interoute CloudStore, an online application and appliance marketplace integrated with Interoute’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Virtual Data Centre. The NetApp cloud storage can be deployed as both a private or public cloud thanks to Interoute’s pan-European MPLS/IP network. Interoute’s network ownership also means customers moving data between NetApp storage units in different Virtual Data Centres can do so, securely and for free, creating geographically dispersed back-up and disaster recovery solutions.

Interoute launches Cloud Hosted Microsoft Lync Service with video and voice extras | Interoute - Europe's largest cloud services platform | Scoop.it

Gartner predicts that by 2016, two-thirds of the workforce will have a smartphone or tablet device. As enterprises come to grips with the ever increasing mobile work force and recent trends such as BYOD, the demand for IT departments to enable enterprise workers with the capability and flexibility to communicate remotely, across a full range of devices, has never been greater.

Chris Green's insight:

By integrating Hosted Lync into its Video as a Service Cloud, Interoute is enabling Lync users to join and host video conferences with any other internal or external end devices, from mobile phones and tablets to room based and fully immersive telepresence suites, regardless of connectivity and as part of a standard service package. 2e2 Administration – Secure Your Services | Interoute - Europe's largest cloud services platform | Scoop.it
Chris Green's insight:

2e2 Administration – Secure Your Services

After a long period of difficulty 2e2 has called in the administrators. After failing to find a buyer the business has been forced to make 627 staff redundant and left many customers wondering what next for the managed services they'd placed with the stricken provider.

Joint administrator Simon Granger from admintrators FTI Consulting commented, "Despite a significant number of initial expressions of interest in the UK business, we were unable to conclude a transaction which preserved the business as a going concern," adding "Regrettably, this failure to conclude a sale coupled with a significant future funding requirement has resulted in large parts of the UK business being closed."

As a services customer you should check your contract, as it's likely that you are able to terminate your 2e2 contracts now that the business is in administration, and sign-up quickly with an alternative provider to eliminate the risk to your organisation.

To help you with this process and minimise additional CAPEX, we can offer you a free on-boarding service* while our UK-based technical experts are ready to be swiftly deployed onsite and fit around your individual project requirements no matter how complex they may be.

Cloud provider explains how it protected UEFA's website from hackers during Euro 2012...

Cloud service provider Interoute has shed some light on the work it did to protect the UEFA website from Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks during the Euro 2012 football tournament earlier this year.

Interoute’s private cloud platform was enlisted by UEFA to provide football fans with access to information about Euro 2012, and to run its Football Administration Management Environment (FAME) tool.

The former was used by UEFA to help manage the tournament logistics for players, sponsors and the press.

It is claimed that, during peak times at the tournament, 31,000 web pages were being access per second at UEFA.com.

Interoute said it used a three-tier security approach to protect UEFA.com and FAME from DDoS attacks, which was built into its private cloud platform.

This included the screening of data accessing UEFA’s systems, which was then checked by a managed firewall service, before being checked again by Interoute’s Network Intrusion Prevent Service.

“The Interoute private cloud hosting infrastructure served up over 4 billion pages to fans all over the world, with visitors viewing numbers peaking at over 31,000 pages per second,” said Matthew Finnie, chief technology officer for Interoute.

“It’s not just major events that attract unwanted attention online, these days every business with a digital presence is open to attack.”

The prevention service looked at the data packet by type, signature and behavior, and then either allowed or blocked the data traffic as it was coming through.

Daniel Marion, head of ICT at UEFA, said: “The Interoute and UEFA team worked around the clock to ensure any attacks were handled quickly and we experienced no disruption to the UEFA EURO 2012 service.”

Finnie added: “Interoute supports businesses across Europe to prevent DDoS and cyber-attacks, with Intrusion Prevention Services, E-mail content filtering, log analysis and much more."

Interoute Launches 100G Pan-European Network with Infinera DTN-X

Interoute Launches 100G Pan-European Network with Infinera DTN-X | Interoute - Europe's largest cloud services platform | Scoop.it
Chris Green's insight:

Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN), a leading provider of digital optical communications systems, and Interoute, owner/operator of Europe's largest cloud services platform, announced today the deployment of the Infinera DTN-X platform, featuring 500 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) long haul super-channels, across Interoute's Pan-European network.

Interoute’s Pan-European network connects 102 cities in 30 countries and includes 21 dense city networks (MANs) in Europe’s major business centers and nine subsea landing stations. Interoute’s fibre optic network serves every major European national telecoms provider, as well as major operators in North America, Africa, east and south Asia and the Middle East, plus major mobile operators, ISPs, governments, universities and research agencies.

Interoute selected the Infinera DTN-X for the scale, efficiency and simplicity the solutions brings to their network.

"The DTN-X helps us win in the marketplace," said Jonathan Wright, Vice President, Service Provider at Interoute. "Speed to deliver services is key in our industry. Infinera's solutions have enabled us to deliver anywhere from 10Gb/s to 500Gb/s capacity quickly and allows us to efficiently provision services, as the market dictates."

"The DTN-X continues to gain traction across the globe because customers are realizing the benefits of investing in an optical transport solution that converges OTN switching and WDM transport in the same chassis." said Chris Champion, Vice President, EMEA Sales. “The Infinera DTN-X platform enables operators like Interoute to win new business by delivering services faster than their competitors with a solution that eliminates the cost and complexity of interconnections between discrete WDM and OTN systems.”

Infinera is the first to deliver 500Gb/s long-haul super-channels based on Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) and the FlexCoherent™ Processor, scaling transport capacity without scaling operational complexity. The Infinera DTN-X increases network efficiency with five Terabits of non-blocking OTN switching per bay, scalable to 240 Tb/s in a multi-bay configuration and resulting in much more efficient utilization of the 100Gb/s waves when compared to conventional WDM architectures. Infinera’s Bandwidth Virtualization™ simplifies service deployment, enabling Interoute to deploy networks in days and services in minutes thereby lowering operational costs.

Interoute has deployed the Infinera DTN and ATN platforms throughout their network. With the Infinera DTN-X, this offers Interoute an end-to-end service delivery capability under one management system.
