After years of studying the Indian market, Starbucks Coffee said Monday that it would open its first store here by September through a 50-50 joint venture with Tata Global Beverages, a unit of the largest business group in India.

Starbucks will be in competition with the Indian coffee chain, Cafe Coffee Day.
The announcement comes a year after Starbucks said it was going to enter this market and nearly two months after the Indian government fumbled an effort to attract more foreign investment in its retailing industry.

NEW DELHI: The Finance Ministry will expand the size and scope of the annual Economic Survey, to be released sometime in March, by incorporating chapters on global imbalances, human development and climate change issues.

 

"We will come out with new chapters including 'India and the Globe' to give a view on the global inequalities and the country's standing," a senior finance ministry official told PTI.

MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has shied away from appointing NGOs to assist it in creating awareness on civic polls to be held on February 16.

Additional municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta said most NGOs tend to have political inclinations. "We want to stay away from allegations later. At this stage, we cannot involve any NGO as we never know about their political leanings.

India Against Corruption, the NGO spearheading Anna Hazare's proposed fast in Mumbai, on Tuesday expressed shock at the prohibitive cost of hiring the MMRDA ground and asked the Maharashtra government to waive it entirely or allow use of Azad Maidan for the agitation.

 

Sources in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority said Team Anna would be required to pay Rs 34.8 lakh for using the ground for 15 days.

During my lifetime, I was treated as if I were an untouchable on account of my body. In contemporary India, a menstruating Hindu woman can cook, go to work, and perform all other duties and responsibilities, yet she is made to feel dirty and polluted.. And in some occasions she is not only made to feel dirty, she is treated as such through a variety of restrictions on what she can and cannot...
