Turkey Slams France Over Genocide Bill

Turkey Slams France Over Genocide Bill | Development studies and int'l cooperation | Scoop.it

Turkey recalled its ambassador in Paris for consultations and announced sanctions against France after the so-called genocide bill, which criminalizes the denial of the Armenian genocide in 1915, was passed by the lower house of Parliament.

The bill has exacerbated an already frosty relationship between Paris and Ankara, in large part due to Mr. Sarkozy's vocal opposition to Turkey's bid to join the European Union.

We, the women who revolt

We, the women who revolt | Development studies and int'l cooperation | Scoop.it

I went to Tahrir Square at around 6:30pm expecting a small, marginal crowd of women who would have bothered (or dared) to respond to the calls for a general protest.

The women in Tahrir Square were of all ages, veiled, non-veiled women, those with children, those barely able to walk. The men who formed the cordon were equally diverse....

Les luttes quotidiennes de l’électricité au Liban : un vecteur d’indignation? | Rumor

Les luttes quotidiennes de l’électricité au Liban : un vecteur d’indignation? | Rumor | Development studies and int'l cooperation | Scoop.it

Les générateurs sont devenus un symbole de la crise électrique au Liban et en même l’illustration de la débrouillardise des Libanais à vivre sans l’Etat.

Yemen Could Seize Moment to Ban Child Marriage

Yemen Could Seize Moment to Ban Child Marriage | Development studies and int'l cooperation | Scoop.it

Now that Yemen's Saleh has agreed to cede power, Nadya Khalife says it's time to remember the country's girls who are being forced into marriage. The practice dooms many young women and should be stopped as part of the transitional reform process.

With the crisis in Yemen, many donors are revisiting their funding strategies. It is likely that some programs may be cut or the amounts of funding may significantly decrease.
