Why she chose a life without sex and will not pooh-pooh a link between vaccines and autism.
Andrew Chignell's insight:

Last week's speaker Joe Regenstein has written quite a few papers with Temple Grandin, an autistic professor at Colorado State who claims to be able to understand animal responses better than most of us, and has designed new humane slaughter techniques/equipment for both standard and religious (Kosher/Hallal) contexts.

Here she is in today's Times...

Milk Grown in a Lab Is Humane and Sustainable. But Can It Catch On? | Ethics of eating | Scoop.it
A Silicon Valley vision: Instead of milking dairy cows, we could make milk in a lab with genetically engineered yeast.
Andrew Chignell's insight:

Unlike the "let them live our their natural lives" model also posted this week, this appears to be a scalable and sustainable model (because there are no cows involved at all!).  Thanks to Antonia Ruppel for the link.

3D printed meat on the way – and it will be disruptive, say American specialists | Ethics of eating | Scoop.it
3D printed meat production will become technically feasible and could create competition for traditional meat producers as consumers will ultimately be able to print their own meat products – although much research and development still remains, say American food academics.
Andrew Chignell's insight:

The poll at the bottom suggests that a lot of people are already open to eating this.  Again, will technology soon make the current debates over animal agriculture moot?

Both vegans and non-vegans alike are pretty much in agreement that most vegan cheeses on the market are a poor substitute for the real thing. Cow Nation - British Milk for Animal Lovers

Cow Nation - British Milk for Animal Lovers | Ethics of eating | Scoop.it
The most animal-friendly brand... ever. Cow Nation has a dairy model which enables each cow to live out its full natural life along with all their offspring.
Andrew Chignell's insight:

This may be the least cruel milk the world has ever seen.

Unfortunately, it's very hard to see how this could be scaled up to meet demand.  Moreover, as Harold Brown pointed out to me, given the toll that cows take on the environment (animal industry produces more greenhouse gas than the entire transportation sector according to the recent UN report "Livestock's Long Shadow"), it's unfortunately hard to see how letting them live out their natural lives is a viable option.
